Art Thread - Sculpture

We had an old sculpture thread? dang! I didn't think anyone shared my love of the three dimensional aesthetic.

I love Echelman's work, she's brilliant!

Have you seen these little guys by Antony Gormley?

this was entitled Field, and consisted of 35,000 handmade clay figures assembled on the gallery floor, all of whom seemed to be beseeching each gallery visitor. With overtones of war and poverty—even though those issues weren’t addressed directly, or perhaps because they weren’t—it was quite moving.

From the St. Louis sculpture park. The name of the piece escapes me.

I'm proudly present, Seattle's best local artist: Dale Chihuly
And thank you very much, we can't forget Chihuly when we speak of art glass. But I gotta say, Dale Chihuly may be just a hometown boy to you guys in Seattle but he belongs to the world now; the man is an icon. Hell for years one couldn't watch Frazier without seeing one of Dale's iconic bowls sitting right there on a pedestal; dare I say, one of the most viewed pieces of art since the Mona Lisa.
I love the colors in the new work--it's absolutely incredible, but we shouldn't forget it was the subtle grace under pressure of his Chandeliers that brought glass into the forefront as a medium of expression (not merely a "craft") to be taken as seriously as oils or bronze.

Chihuly is an American treasure right up there with Pollock and Warhol.

Another landscape sculpture. This one’s called Another Place by Antony Gormley, located in Liverpool, England. The whole thing is actually 100 life size cast iron figures facing out to sea, but I couldn't find any pictures with more than a few of the "iron men", as they're more commonly known :D
