Why do you spend the cash to fly the guys in to LA? Why not just find a group in one city and go there for the shoot? It would change up the scenes and get you out of that shit hole called LA. (yes, I know you went to AUS) But really is there a legal aspect to the industry in LA that makes it less likely to go to jail for filming porn?

erg.

OK fine.

Nobody's gonna let this thread die and I've been gone for FOUR MONTHS.

you win.

Let's get to that last one...

LOL Welcome back, at least until your next self-imposed exile.

And to make sure this thread stays on topic:

So, Jasun, how they hangin'?

Ok well first off, we don't shoot in LA. I have to say I find it a little ironic that someone from Detroit is calling LA a "shit hole," but I'm sure beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Your idea isn't really workable. We choose hot guys based on their availability.. not their location. We shoot usually 4 or 5 guys all in the same weekend and we often find them all only days before the shoot. The guys are from all over America and one of the great perks is that they get to travel to a rather beautiful location that they've never been to... they get treated like stars, taken out and pampered and spoiled a bit. The shoot itself is just a small part of the fun.

If you take a look at the behind-the-scenes video in the member's blog, you'll see how much fun the guys all have on their vacation away. It's why the movies come out so well... there's an air of excitement to the whole experience. The guys have a great time making new friends and being away from home (many of the guys have never been away from their small towns and have never seen desert or mountains or road runners or palm trees).

We shoot in the desert near LA so it's easy for us to travel to.. we need to cart a LOT of gear with us and we can't fly it to another city easily or even safely.

As far as a legal aspect.. no.. you don't go to jail for shooting porn. Not sure why you'd think you would.

We shoot in Southern California for the same reasons that mainstream movies shoot in SoCal... predictable, pleasant weather year-round. Try to shoot guys naked outside jacking off in January in Detroit. See how much they like it.

We never have to cancel shoots on account of rain, blizzards, overcast days or hurricanes. And the locations are beautiful. Why would we shoot anywhere else?

I mean.. if you've seen the end result, you have to agree it's working for us... why fuck with the formula?

HA, OK got me Detroit sucks too, but the fam is here and all...

As far as the jail thing goes I referenced this show.

It sounds like most porn is on the edge of legal, it is just not being brought to trial right now.

One more question. Does organized crime still have a hand in the industry? Have they ever been on the door step and said "we want a cut or we'll cut you"?

By the way, I love your site and work. The guys look awesome. :-)

That's just what PBS would like you to think. "Most" porn isn't on the edge of legal. If it was, Larry Flint, Hugh Hefner and most of the 5,000,000 contributing members of xtube would be in the slammer.

Adam Glasser wasn't prosecuted for making porn, he was prosecuted for obscenity. I challenge you to find anyone who says that having vanilla sex or masturbating defies "Community Standards."

That whole PBS thing was just bizarre. Not what I'd expect from them. Adult material isn't the dirty, unseemly industry that they tried to make it seem.... using Seymore Butts movies to represent the entire industry is like using the Dead Kennedys to show what all rock bands were like in the 80s.

Most of us really do enjoy what we do, we don't see anything wrong with what we do and we're confused when people assume that we're "immoral" or "Exploitive" or involved with the mob. We're just regular people who go to work and try to produce a quality product that we'd use ourselves and then we go home to our families at night. We care about the safety and well-being of our employees and we're there to help even guys who've left Fratmen if they need a helping hand.

We're very moral people. It's not like we're priests of lawyers or the producers of those reality shows where they dupe beautiful women into dating ugly guys.

One more question. Does organized crime still have a hand in the industry? Have they ever been on the door step and said "we want a cut or we'll cut you"?

Please tell me you're kidding. Or please stop watching so much HBO. Or both. No. No the mob doesn't knock on our door, nor do the police. The only cop that drops by the office is the guy who's dating my little brother and he and I go out for lunch every so often. We also get a lot of visits from the product placement agency next door but that's because we often accept their UPS and FEDEX packages if they're not in the office.

By the way, I love your site and work. The guys look awesome. :-)

Thanks. The guys ARE awesome. I was such of fan of what John was doing that I moved to a new country for the chance to work for him. Best gamble I ever made.

This is a really interesting thread. Thanks for posting here soilwork.

How do you find models? I mean really-looking at all the available porn out there, Fratmen consistently has such an exceptional group of talent you all must be doing something better and different than the other sites.
Even the least attractive guys on the site (in my opinion) I can see sexiness in, whereas so many other sites post pictures of guys who look like me! What's the secret?

I run around with a big basket and wait for the angels to fall from heaven.
