Asparagus season

We are weeks and weeks away yet. Even for white asparagus....

I had some last weekend that was delicious. It was pencil thin and sweet.
 
I had it last week twice and again today. It was just as Alistair describes. Quite a treat.
 
Steamed with a vinaigrette is the way I like them, or with hollandaise sauce. I always thought that cheese sauce was too rich for the delicate flavor.
 
Asparagus along with artichokes and baby carrots are my favorite vegetables.

I eat asparagus like candy.
 
It'll probably be a couple months before I get any fresh from the garden.

But could be from the store..that depends on if there are any good sales..
 
Green asparagus is good raw (les crudités). The white is not.

Tinned or bottled asparagus is a tasteless mess.
