I know it doesn't fit your narrative, but he was never joining IS nor is he a martyr. The guy was so crazy they banned him from going to mosque! He was a crack head - IS would have shot him on the spot when he turned up sweating constantly and going mad.

You're normally a questioning mind on the media, I don't see how you have fallen so hard for this one. It was a sad event - but not some weird Islamist plot.

From the early reports I saw, he was not rejected a Canadian passport - they were just running checks on him and he was not on any list of potential list of IS volunteers. He told the Somalian guys he prayed with he wanted to leave to get clean - but sure he may have headed out to Syria/Iraq. Once he got there and was mentally ill and a drug addict they would have killed him.
