"Attention Wal-Mart Customers: All Black People Leave the Store Now"

If you guys don't consider this prank to be racist, it will still take the U.S. of A. a looong time to fight racism...

Please. It's not like race is something that jokes can't be made about. Comedians like Lisa Lampanelli have made entire careers out of racial comedy.

It's entirely possible that this guy has no problems whatsoever with black people, and just did this for laughs.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Walmart has Sir Walter Raleigh in a can!! Thread topic BAD JOKE perhaps! Major news story Hardley!!!

See? You even have comedians that support racism and you tolerate them.

Race jokes, particularly those directed towards blacks would be a little funnier, if it was no so that you people were lynching them with police support not too long ago.

Making a racial joke does not make one a racist. That's like saying that if Kathy Griffin told a gay joke, it would automatically make her a homophobe.

People these days are too quick to scream RACIST! I'm not buying into that bullshit.

Not so much in New Jersey, dear.

Nobody said the person who perpetrated it wasn't a racist. Just that he had a higher level of stupidity than racism. Of course racists start with a certain level of stupidity to begin with.

You see there are three three general levels of stupidity of racists: 1) general racist - just plain stupid, 2) stupid racist - far more stupid than the general racist, and 3) idiot racist - whose stupidity knows no bounds.

Granted, one can be stupid without being a racist, but one can not be a racist without being stupid.

Another point that was made is that just because a stupid racist idiot was able to access the PA system, doesn't mean WalMart was to blame. It could have been a disgruntled former employee who was fired because he was racist... We just don't know.

Of course it's possible that he is not a racist.

The idea that he said that and MEANT it, and really wanted the black people to leave for some reason, is so unbelievable that I think it was just someone with an out there sense of humor having fun with the PA system.

I could get on a PA and randomly say "Could all the midgets leave the store, please?" without being someone who has a problem with midgets.

Would it be racism if the guy that said it happened to be black? Fact is we don't know the race of the guy that even said it for God's sake. Now it has to be racism because someone singled out a specific ethnicity for a joke. It was a stupid prank. Nothing more.

But it would still be prejudicial against little people (midgits is so unPC). Just because you don't harbor hate for a specific group, doesn't mean you can't say hurtful things about them.

Now if you were a "midgit" yourself, and said that you would be showing signs of self loathing.

Just because you don't MEAN something to be hurtful doesn't mean it wont be.

I agree that it's much ado about nothing.

Some punk-ass idiot grabbed the mic when no one was looking. Consider the source: He's a clueless asshole.

But, personally, if I had been in that Wal-Mart and the message over the loudspeakers rang out, "All cock-loving gay men leave the store, now !" I would have fallen down laughing.

Bigotry is bigotry: But, it helps to know when and how to pick your battles.

But the incident does bring up a question of security. I always thought that every square centimeter of those places is cammed/recorded at all times. If they can't find out anything by reviewing the cam tapes then they may be missing other more significant stuff like theft. Maybe the cams don't actually cover as much as they think.

So they review the tapes and find 25 people using the WalMart phones, which one is it?

Not to mention any of the phones near the dressing rooms or corridors to the restrooms will not be viewed by the cams (against the law). There are limits to any legal security system.

Well, I think people need to lighten up. Jokes are jokes. It's disgusting how much people are allowed to take legal action in this country because something offended them.

By your logic, if any of us on here made a gay joke, we'd be self-loathing? That's ridiculous.

I personally would love to be able to have access to a PA system and tell the mothers of loud children to take them out of the store. Does that make me child-ist? If I was a child and I wanted to do that, would I be a self loathing child-ist child?

Jesus H Christ, people, lighten up.

Yes, the black people in the store were legitimately offended. No, they do not have the right to take any kind of legal action against the store or any individual.

And no, the fact that this person said that does not AUTOMATICALLY make them a racist, nor does it make them prejudiced.

A joke is one thing, being hurtful (even if you're doing it under the guise of a joke) is another. Discrimination is hurtful (not to mention stupid).

As for suggesting the mothers take their screaming children out of the store, that is just an attempt to limit the level of noise.
As for the self loathing, that isn't my logic.... just the standard jub feelings. I learned that by reading many posts about a black guy who preferred dating whites.

And yes, singling a specific ethnic group out, even under the guise of a joke, is the very definition of racism and prejudice.

As for whether there is grounds for a lawsuit, since there was no discernible amount of damages (no money lost - wages, doctors bills, etc) you are correct that they would not be able to sue the individual. As it was not something perpetrated/encouraged/allowed by the company, they are clear as well.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but if I were in the store at the time...my first thought would have been okay...who the hell is playing around on the PA system?

I would have laughed it off and went on about my shopping.

It's so dumb and random, it would have HAD to have been a joke.

Unfortunately every thing is so Politically Correct now that such is not allowed. Human behavior must CONFORM.

It was a joke, I would have found it amusing had I been in the store.

On a side note I am surprised the crazies like Jesse Jackson and the other one with the funky hair aren't loading people onto buses to demonstrate outside the Wal Mart.

America is becoming so humorless!

I am sure all charges will be dropped in due time once this nonsense comes off front page news.
