Awkward Father Sex Talk

... and several times he took me to Hooters (after I was out)... with my first boyfriend...Yeah, taking two gay boys to Hooters... talk about awkward.

This sounds like a great idea for a comedy skit!

My parents, too, were an epic fail and completely AWOL on the subject of sex as well.

Not one word on the subject. The first I even knew about sex were the health books from the school library I checked out in 7th and 8th grade. When the other students in school caught me with said books, omg, the hell I caught...:grrr:

my parents never said a word about sex. nothing. I dont know if they were too embarrassed to do it or what the deal was. My son is 11 and I know I will have to have the discussion with him soon. I want him to feel comfortable talking to me about anything no matter what the topic is.

Steven.

My parents were university professors and so my "talk" was quite clinical. I have three older brothers (shared a bedroom with 1 of them) so I just asked them usually.

I wouldn't say it was "awkward"... but my father talked about sex all the time, long before I even hit puberty. He gave me access to his porn collection, and I learned a great deal from that...I learned how to masturbate from Xaviera Hollander's "Happy Hooker" column in Hustler. And once or twice after I came out he talked to me about women, trying to understand how anybody could possibly not want to have sex with a woman, because he liked it so much. So I told him what it was like to have sex with a man, and he seemed to get it.

And if you don't want to tell your parents, don't leave evidence behind for little brothers to find.

Wow, you must have had the most open-minded father ever - I'm happy with my own, but my parents more or less refuse to discuss anything gay and take a more "live and let live" approach (both are to some degree religious). Talking about having sex with another guy, and then on top of it understanding it? Would never fly.

Please see my "Dear Old Dad" thread. lol

I came out to my dad when I was about 17 or so. His reply: "Maybe you should try having sex with a girl just to be sure." I think he even offered to loan me some straight porn once.

Ironically, my father has recently admitted to me that he's had sex with guys and might be bisexual. ](*,)
