Here's a confirmation to something I posted a while back. The Wisconsin GOP enacted a new law to get voteer ids from DMV.. Here is an 18 yo trying to do just that. Unbelievable!
Let's here the Jubber GOPPERS deny this now. That's JB3 Jack Springer, maybe Jackoroe. I don't remember just who, but these names come to mind.
These laws are to keep elderly, young from voting.

Wisconsin DMV Tells Boy His Bank Account Doesn’t Show Enough “Activity” To Get a Voter ID

A video has surfaced of a boy trying to get one of the new Wisconsin Voter IDs that were ushered in by the signing of new a voting law in the state. Shot by the boy's mother with the clear intention of indicting the process, the video shows the pair going from station to station at the DMV, asking all of the right questions as to why there are so many hurdles to acquiring this constitutionally guaranteed ID card.

It is a shame the video is not edited more briskly -- at almost ten minutes in length its viral spread will certainly be thwarted -- but it nonetheless lends itself to breath-holding drama because of this fact.

Because Wisconsin passed a law that people have to show 'approved' ID to vote. Even if they are already registered. This video was shot in Wisconsin, where a black teen is being denied the ability to *get* an approved ID -- not all photo IDs count.

Your opening post does not include personal commentary about the text you quoted from an external source. How does that article relate to your mention of a Wisconsin law? What is significant about the video and how does it relate to the Wisconsin law?

I don't remember just which post I'm referring to, but it has come up a couple of times. States like Wisconsin, Fla, Texas, that I can remember have come up with laws that I see as making it harder for elderly, students, poor to get these voter ids, which some are just a poll tax. This video brings that up.. The boy forgot to mark an x in a block. Not marking it would be a state id which costs $28, marking it for voting is free. People who forget to mark it have to pay, ie poll tax.
I have gone through the poll taxes here in Texas back in the 60s. Well I never had to pay the tax because I'm white, but blacks had to pay. This is no different.
I don't know what else I can say, this is pretty much it. Unconstitutional.
I got an email from ACLU today to contact Holder to define these laws unconstitutional. We'll see.

[STRIKE]I wont defend this or be upset about it until the whole truth is revealed. [/STRIKE]

Bottom line is in Tennessee when I changed states of residence it was the first time in 16 years I had obtained a license without just sending them some cash and my military ID.

I am white, at the time 35 and had been in the armed services for 16 years. I had passports (both federal and personal). I had military ID. It took almost three months and numerous trips to the DMV (county clerk there in TN) to get just the right this or just the right that.

Being denied an ID is difficult, frustrating and maybe something should be done about their efficiency. BUT it is certainly not isolated to Wisconsin or black teenagers. To say so is ignorant.

So in reviewing the video the guy was denied by a part time worker who stated he could not answer the final question. The applicant must go to the full time employees. The applicant then goes to the full time employee and receives a ID. The mother of the child using him as a political statement then rails on about how to check a box or not check a box.

I guess the people of Wisconsin ought to learn how to read instructions. if you are so special that you can not read the form then someone is probably escorting you to the DMV.

Then she bitches that it takes two weeks. Which is a post 9/11 requirement ACROSS the nation.

What an idiotic video.

I'm glad you game me the link. This last sentence I missed on the Alterneet link. This tell it all:

Watch in awe/disgust below and then read about the closure of DMVs in highly Democratic districts.

This is the whole idea of the law. To find people who are most likely to vote Dem and discourage them from getting the Poll tax! I call it that because that's what it is.

It is fairly clear where the stricter requirements for obtaining a license came from although some twit will cry fear monger as soon as I post this. However the truth is the truth.

The above quote is from a document on the National Immigration Law centers web pages.

What occurred on 9/11 was avoidable. Unfortunately some painful process has resulted. Well paperwork me to death please. Just don't blow me the fuck up.

Besides having to reaffirm that it is a first time free ID and having to insist the documents be accepted there is nothing wrong in that video.

EXCEPT, how freakin easy is it to get a bank account? I mean is that really all you need to be determined a Wisconsin resident? Why not demand a Social security card? Easy and free? Such a strange system. Yet if anything it is too lax.

SO post something that clearly demonstrates from a reputable news source that democratic stronghold DMV's are being systematically eliminated in Wisconsin

Looks like I need to clarify something. When I said blacks and poll tax, I meant that in Texas back in the 60s and beyond. That was the whole reason for the tax.

The summary is incorrect based on the video. They did not tell him he had insufficient activity to get a voter ID.

However why bank activity is even a requirement seems a bit disturbing to me.

WE... if I went off a bit... well it is cuz i havent in a bit.:badgrin::badgrin:

But that clearly came across to me as 'black guy refused ID' and was indicated as a republican ploy to stop legal voters.

It may be cantankerous and irritating and misguided even but I don't think that law is any of those intents. I support a national ID also however. I have had one for 21 years and you know what? It makes life easier in some instances. If they ask for two forms of ID I give them five. Kinda rules things out.

My Mother has to go to Probate court to get her name changed. Why? On her birth certificate she has a middle name of Lavonne. Well in 1954 Cincinnati Ohio the teacher or school official decided that was too balck a name for a little white girl so she renamed my Mother Yvonne. The second name stuck. SO now for the last 44 years she has had an ID that says one thing and a birth certificate that says another. In applying for state supported medicaid she was denied due to her identification being 'wrong'. That is quite possibly the most frustrating thing that has ever occurred to me. However I would rather she get her shit correct than have some white supremist from another country come here and get an id with the intent to do harm.

Does it suck we can not be free lovin, free willy hipsters without a care in the world? Yup

What do you do?

What do I do?

Now I'm knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the blue sky breeze blowin' wind thru my hair
Only worry in the world
is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise, there's a fire in the sky
never been so happy
never felt so high
and I think I might've found me my own kind of paradise

What's perfectly clear is the GOP is slowly doing everything in it's power to ensure legal immigrants, African-Americans, out of state college students and the poor, ( all four of which tend to strongly vote for Democrats) have as a difficult a time registering to vote as possible.

It's the same story Jim Crow told me, it's the only one he knows....

You might want to ask the guys in the Tech Talk forum to offer help/advice to fix that problem.

Any affected Wisconsin citizen who considers the Wisconsin law to be unconstitutional is free to build a case and challenge it in court. The supreme court in my state upheld a similar law earlier this year [Link]

And the US Supreme Court decided a similar case from Indiana several years ago. The challenge to that “most-restrictive-in-the-nation voter identification law” was rejected.

Out-of-state college students shouldn't be allowed outside of their own states anyway; you can only claim residence in one state, so it makes sense to block them in one of the states. The GOP blocking poor and elderly (someone you left off the list) is shooting themselves in the foot, as both groups traditionally vote for the GOP. The other groups (including minorities as a whole) need to get over their shyness and see it for the BS tactic it is; just because an ID is required should not scare them away from the poles.

Past that:SCOTUS has ruled that requiring a voting ID is not a poll tax as long as everyone is required to have one, and that if it is not a standard ID then it must be free. In that regard, Wisconsin is apparently following that ruling. Also, not marking it correctly is an issue in not being able to read forms correctly; that's a strike against the applicant, not the DMV. Also, the clerk did his job in noticing that it was for a voting card, a bit late maybe, but he did notice it.

That said: I am a little concerned that a bank account is required to prove residency. Oh. Wait. It's not : Residency Requirement. It's something that can be used, granted, but it's not the only thing. As an 18-yr-old, he could have used a pay stub, school records, government-issued correspondence, or even proof of enrollment at a college.

Bottom line: Her choice of the bank statement was her choice. As such, I'm not seeing an invasion of privacy. You don't flash someone and then argue that they invaded your privacy. There were other options available.

The argument re: homeless people was valid. But they would have been shut out of voting even without said card due to their lack of an address anyway.

I'm just not drinking the Kool-Aid here folks...

Any barriers at all placed in the path of people who want to vote are suspect. That employees are not instructed to explain that if a voter card is wanted, to check the box, suggests the instructions were created with intent to make voting more difficult.

They can't be shut out for not having an address -- that's unconstitutional discrimination.

Homeless people in Oregon can vote without an address. Not having procedures to make sure everyone who wants to can vote suggests intent to not want everyone to vote.
