CnAnPB I think I see your point in the thread, but I have to agree with marleyisalegend. The only reason the right used his middle name was because of the association with Arabic names. Trying desperately to make other white assholes believe he was Muslim. I had plenty of emails suggesting this and even some from the bigots in my family.

Is it true he'll use his full name? Almost certainly. For as long as I can remember, presidents have used their middle names in the swearing-in ceremony.

The real question is whether this has anything to do with a PC, thought-police action on the part of the lefties. And frankly, I don't think it does. Only two other presidents were called by their first and middle names, and in each case, it was to differentiate them from their fathers who were also US presidents. Thus we talked of John Quincy Adams and George W Bush. No one ever spoke of Ronald Wilson Reagan, or George Herbert Walker Bush, or William Jefferson Clinton.

Lex do not say no one.

Many do myself included. Remember the threads where I was trashed for using full names ?

Well, I am going to have to agree with Marley, and others.

It was used as a very obvious case of xenophobia by many right wing pundits.

It did not work, except to rile up the many crazed right wingers that were not going to vote for him anyways.

And yes, his full name should be used when he swears in as President of the United States. That job is a rather important one.

I agree it was a jab but I think the point was more to say he was anti-american than Arabic. ALA Saddam Hussein. BHO is propaganda for Barack "anti-american" Obama. If we had white Christian presidential candidates named Gregory Hitler Smith who had some questionable ties to anti-semitic groups or Samantha Stalin Brown who had been funded by communists they too might be questioned.

But Barack didn't have any questionable ties to Saddam Hussein, or to Muslim extremists.

The ayers+hussein name thing didn't help Obama's image as a man who loves his country.

OK, I see where you're coming from on that. But the Ayers association had nothing to do with the Hussein thing. That was just an attempt by the right to use anti-Arab racism to destroy Obama, after anti-African-American racism failed them for the first time ever.

And I don't thing the Ayers association was really "questionable," though it's really kind of moot at this point.
Though I agree with you the implication that Obama may be soft on Arab extremists was there too. However, most Arabs, like Indians, Koreans, Africans or Chinese mean us no harm.

Just so. All sane people realize this.

That said Im sure as fuck glad my middle name isn't Hussein, that would suck.

You could always change it. And what IS your middle name, hmm? :-) (Mine's Jay. What terrorist associations that implies I have no idea...I do "fist bump," though!)

I was kidding about your middle name. Sorry; thought I made that clear by "revealing" mine and speculating that it might make me a terrorist.

And I was just saying the association with Ayers and the emphasis on Hussein were two separate smears against Obama; the Hussein thing didn't make it easier to pin the Ayers association on him, and vice versa. They were two unrelated issues.

You did notice that I was largely agreeing with you, didn't you?

Hollis my middle name is DICK. Go figure. Loosen up your shorts this is not that serious.

Hussein was used to imply bias. Using his name now would be protocol in some situations.

As a note I do remember that when they were witch hunting Clinton for being a liar the news outlets used his full name quite a bit. I think for many that implies trouble which relates back to childhood.

Blame it on your mother

I think this is uncalled for. hollisterbro didn't say anything that justified that kind of remark.

Just one man's opinion.

I don't think using his middle name was ever in question when it was legit, but using it to try and link it to foreign terrorists and such was offensive in many ways. When used to insult him, its not right and anyone who does so should be shot.

Well, there was William Henry Harrison who was called by all three names. I think maybe Chester A. Arthur might have regularly used his middle initial.

I remember some people who really were fond of Bush I referring to him only by his middle initials; it was weird hearing "HW" did this, "HW" did that.
And LOTS of people, after a certain point, referred to Clinton by his first and second initial -- using the familiar form of his first name.

That will be Chef Justice Roberts.
And I am sure he will be very professional.

"Chef Justice" -- :rotflmao: Oh, I needed a good laugh! :=D:

The information presented is incomplete. Yes, He will use his middle name but it is in service to being more inclusive. As of his inauguration he will be known as Baruch Hussein O'Bama.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Let's see, that name would be Jewish, Muslim, and Catholic -- what a combo for the Middle East!

Thinking of Catholic...

I had a friend in high school whose name would make some eyebrows rise if he got elected president and took the oath with his full name:

Kenneth Ignatius Sebastian Gabriel Cyril Gregory Schmidt.

And now you know why we killed of WHH after 30 days - that was just a pain in the ass.

But note that CHESTER used his middle initial. It's how HE chose to be addressed. We didn't say "William Clinton" - it was "Bill Clinton".
