BOULDER - When 16-year-old Ben Raderstorf first came up with the idea, he admits it seemed a little "out there." But after some consideration and support, he decided to go for it.

The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) says it is considering the junior's proposal to change the name of Boulder High School to Barack ObamaHigh School.

"We're not so much naming it after him, as naming it after the achievement that was his election, for not just minorities, but all Americans," Raderstorf said.

Obama's just started.

Naming schools after elected officials still in office is immature and premature. Wait til they've finished their service, and name schools after those who achieved great things.

And, frankly, Boulder High School is a good name. There's going to be lots of new construction because of the stimulus bill, name some new buildings after Obama if that's so important to you. I think it's premature, but at least those new buildings would make sense.

There is an elementary school on Long Island that became the first school in the nation to change it's name to Barack Obama Elementary School. The students wanted it the day after the election, and presented their case to the school board. The board approved it, and a week ago the name was officially changed.

I think it's interesting that people can't seem to separate Barack Obama from the historical significance of his win.

Until he wipes his ass with the constitution or leads an unnecessary war I don't see any harm in naming a school after him. His story has inspired generations of blacks who didn't think his win was possible.

If he turn out to be the worst thing to happen to the US since prohibition, they can always change the name.

What Obama has already accomplished in itself is a symbol of pride to black people. He could become the worst president but it won't matter to a lot of blacks because one of their own reached "the impossible".
