Baseball Winter 2007 Hot Stove League

I'll be keeping up with the Tigers too next season, seeing if this really gutsy trade can be the difference over Cleveland.Dombrowski has always been one of the best GMs,and part of that is because he has guts to make a bold move when it can really pay off for his club's chances. It's a risk, but still a very good one even if it doeasn't immediately pay off.

Sonny,I think the Yanks know they have an aging, expensive outfield and would rather trade off some of that aging excess to pay top money to an ace like Santana then a good hitter with decreasing range and skill like a Matsui,Abreu....though Damon is currently irreplaceable because if he is healthy again,he is the only quality leadoff threat they have(You know they'd not rather bat Jeter leadoff).I don't know if this gets serious, because Matsui did not come here to get traded to the West Coast...but I believe they are exploring it and would do it in a heartbeat if they get an opportunity.

We'll just have to see what the Mitchell Report has in store, but if it helps put the steroids era to bed,and helps scare off potential users,or those who did but somehow slipped discipline from MLB,all the better.

New York Yankees vs.New York Mets in a Subway Series?God knows I hope for that every day,and they both are good enough to achieve that New York fan's wet dream....it would be especiallly poignant if it occured next season, the last at the respective club's old stadiums.

WOW!A lot of interesting names surfacing in the Mitchell Report.Clemens I had heard was suspected of juicing,as Pettitte. But a lot of good current and recent players...trying to digest it.Baseball has to act in a way that no cloud on the integrity of the game can be tolerated in the future. No record or achievement should ever be looked upon with doubt and suspicion that it was achieved through effort and hard work alone, not chemically assisted.Roger Clemens is no longer worthy of Hall of Fame consideration unless he speaks truthfully on what he really took and for how long...the same goes for the others.Take responsibility for your own actions, look ahead to preventing future generations of ballplayers feel that they could do what you did because of who you were by apologizing and show a willingness to handle the consequences of the ramificartions of your using these subastances.

Well I had to share this newspaper headline regarding Roger Clemens alledged  steroid use

Sonny,I'm with you thatRoger Clemens deserves this coming back to,for lack of a better term, bite him on the bottom.;)It appears he like Barry Bonds did not just age gracefully but had lots of chemical assistance in the years in his career staring with his resurgence as a dominant pitcher with Toronto during the late '90's.They are both disgraceful poster boys for better performance through chemistry. They let their egos overrule any integrity and common sense they may have ever possessed...the worst outrage of their legacy is that so many young athletes are taking performance enhancing drugs because they think it gives them an edge.If it takes embarassment and ridicule to knock some sense into these athletes so the whole notion of sport does not become an utter travesty,so be it.

Oh Roger, you poor sorry ass SOB.
Thou dost protest too much, take this to the bank,he will be admitting the truth one day. It's Pete Rose all over again. Roger is so ashamed and embarrassed to have been exposed in front of his family and friends that he is in full denial, but he knows the truth. And whether he admits it or not, so does everybody else.

Mr. Clemens may be innocent of the charges made against him in the Mitchell Report. Mr. Clemens was invited to speak to George Mitchell before the report was released and he declined the invitation.

If and when George Mitchell and Alan Selig jointly announce that Mr. Clemens' name should not have appeared in the report and that all that was reported about Mr. Clemens' drug use was fabricated by Mr. Clemens' former personal trainer then I will believe that Mr. Clemens was wrongly accused.

sonny, I think I'm getting the shakes.

When does baseball start?

(goes and rocks in the fetal position in the corner...)

;)

(oh, and that comic ^ is freaking hysterical!!!)

sonny, I think I'm getting the shakes.

I feel your pain babe, but with football winding down, I feel it getting closer.
Here in NY we have two cable channels, one for Mets and one for the Yankees that show old games every week. Last week I saw a replay of a game when we beat your Cards ass.
Even though the games are old, and you know the outcome, it's still cool to watch. helps get through the long baseball free winter.
Also we have a live show every week with Kevin Berkhart and guests like Ron Darling, interviewing some of the guys and talking about the goings on
(what little there has been) during winter. I look forward to that show every Monday night.
In April, I will be going to start gearing up to play with my boys, we have been playing together since High School. I may not be no David Wright, although I am as cute ;) I can play a mean 3rd.
Hang in there dude, before you now it, it will "Play Ball"!

I wanna watch Disc two. :p (*8*)

I have this DVD set an absolutely love it!

That is pretty cool that they replay old games. I would totally crack open a beer at like 2 on a Saturday and watch a game!

I may not be no David Wright, although I am as cute ;)

Ain't that the fucking truth. Isaygoddamn! *|*

St.Louis fans are better.(*8*)Boston fans are getting fucking arrogant with the Red Sox winning, the Patriots looking invincible and the Celtics being relevant for the first time in ages with Garnett/Pierce/Allen and company.:grrr:Makes you long for the days of victorious New York clubs!;)

Just to go off topic for a sec and switch to football.
Lets hear for New England, gotta hand it to em, Brady and Moss took it to the record books. Brady with that awesome 65-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss. So will they be called the greatest team in NFL history?
Oh, and I am not one of those NYers who wanted the Giants to beat em yesterday.
Now all they gotta do is win their next three games and another Super Bowl.

Ok, now back to baseball.

One can only wish that Nomar would start beating him with a bat, but I don't think we'll be that lucky - god I hate the Red Sox!

Cards turn to Blue Jays in Rolen talks

Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen

Scott Rolen may finally get his wish, and the Cardinals may have found his replacement.

The Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays are discussing a swap of third basemen that would bring third baseman Troy Glaus to St. Louis and send the disenchanted Rolen north of the border. Industry sources confirmed the conversations, which were first reported Saturday on Fox Sports.com.

Reached at his office, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said he was at the ballpark "working through this weekend and I'm working on a lot of different things."

He declined to discuss specifics.

Another Cardinals official acknowledged that "there are conversations taking place".

Rolen, a Gold Glove third baseman, has $36 million and three years remaining on his contract, though he did approach the Cardinals earlier this offseason to express a willingness to waive his no-trade clause.

Rolen has a simmering feud with manager Tony La Russa, one that has become increasingly public since La Russa agreed to a two-year deal to return to the Cardinals. Rolen has remained mum publicly, though La Russa has described an environment where one player said he would prefer La Russa not return to the club.

That player: Rolen.

The Cardinals explored trading Rolen to several clubs, most notably Milwaukee, during the Winter Meetings in December. A deal could not be completed and Mozeliak left the meetings site believe Rolen would be a member of the 2008 Cardinals. Rolen has been disgruntled with the organization since a shoulder injury in 2005, and his frustration peaked in 2006 when La Russa did not start for a game in the National League Championship Series.

Rolen was limited to 112 games last season before requiring a third surgery in three seasons on his left shoulder. The Cardinals have said they expect him to be ready for spring training, and Rolen said the most recent surgery is to restore a flexibility he lacked in 2007. His difficulty with the shoulder contributed to sagging power numbers, which included eight home runs.

Glaus, 31, is a two-time 40-homer hitter and has five season of at least 30 home runs. He has been bothered by a foot injury that limited him to 115 games last season, though he still hit 20 home runs and drove in 62 RBIs.

It has been reported and confirmed that physicals for both players would be a pivotal part of completing any deal.

Cory, so I guess you are going to be a Blue jays fan now ;)
I would not think the Cards would want to lose more offense after trading Edmonds and replacing Eckstein with who? Izturis?.
I’m thinkin Rolen will be happy to get away from LaRussa, those two have not gotten along for like two years
I feel for ya dude, I know I would be devastated if the Mets traded Wright.
