Baseball Winter 2007 Hot Stove League

Yeah, Eckstein went to the Blue Jays. ](*,) My lil sparky's moving on :(

They are essentially ripping apart the team and rebuilding it. Carpenter won't be ready until at LEAST the middle of the summer either...

I think I may be watching the playoffs from home again - and not with the Cardinals involved ;)

Atlanta got Mark Kotsay,a really good complimentary player today ...and Scott Rolen is apparently being exiled to Toronto for Troy Glaus.

I think Atlanta made a nice move and Kotsay, while not the power threat Andruw Jones was at center field, will do well in comparison with his fielding and solid bat. He's a grinder and hustler and I love those kinds of players!:D

I think St. Louis and Scott Rolen just grew tired of each other...and the Cards wanted to get rid of Rolen in the worst way. They even sent him out of the country as well as out of the NL.Hope he has good health this year and returns to the form that made him one of the best all around third basemen in the game.Still has three years at $36,000,000 left on his contract, but if he just returns to form those numbers in today's wacky market will seem like a bargain!Glaus is a power guy and okay defensively, though not in Rolen's league when healthy. Also too prone to strikeouts and slumps. Not often really hit for great average, either. And one of those named in the Mitchell Report for using chemical enhancements.A decent player for his power bat,but not one who by himself will dramatically improve the St. Louis standings in regards to playoff contention. Then again, the NL Central is SO mediocre, who can count St. Louis out this season?:p

Oh wait, what am I doing? That's the complete and utter truth. (Hello? 2006? "It's not who plays the best baseball, it's who plays the best baseball at the right time!")

*slaps self*

Seeing Carlos Beltran frozen after that strikeout is still etched in my mind!:(

You're welcome, sonny!Yes,Hot Stove League is over, and we now enter a new season...we have the best pitcher in the game now in Johann Santana, and seem ready to fight again and leave behind the mess of last September.Good news is that Jose Reyes is early and ready to have a better year, especially in the stretch drive. He's running and keeping in great shape, and trying to have the stamina he realized he lost in the last month or two which really hurt the team's offense....asnd contributed to their problems.I hope he returns to the form of 2006 ,maybe a little better...people saw great things from him as a player then, and hopefully he can fulfill his tremendous promise.Let's go Mets!

Also great to have everyone involved here, especially my Long Island paisan sonny and the always delightful and horny(or is that horny and delightful?)#-oCory;)(*8*)

Watching the Mets live from spring training every day, I can feel the excitement the boys are feeling, they are chompin at the bit to get started.
You are right about Jose, he showed up early along with David Wright and Carlos Beltron. Even Santana got there a day earrly, and watching him and Pedro working out together and havin fun gave me goosebumps. There wil be no competition, both have said they want to work together and learn from one another.
Many questioned who the opening day starter would be, Pedro, having heard this, stepped up and said it would be fine with him if it was Johan.
But the best quote of the week came from Beltron, who said,
"The Mets were the team to beat this year, Rollins". :D

How did I miss this???

Eeeeee, baseball! I can't wait! :gogirl:

I won't interrupt the Mets orgy :p but GO CARDS!

^ I only recognize Wainwright, Looper, and Thompson in that picture. (and possibly hottie Tyler Johnson, but I don't think that's him.)

I'm going to have to get to know so many more players and see which ones are the hottest! ..|

I hope my boyfriend Skip Schumaker makes it. There was an article in the STL PD that said him and two others were trying to make the final roster. He's so fucking hot.

Can we technically hijack this thread now since the Winter Stove League is over??? ;) :p

You are asking if we can technically hijack this thread now that it has finished serving its function....like I can stop you!:pIt's been fun and let's hope for a great baseball season for the Mets, and the Cards(as long as they aren't playing the Mets)!;)

I think my D'backs are going to have great starting pitching with; Brandon Webb, Dan Haren, Doug Davis, Micah Owings & Randy Johnson (eventually), their bullpen should be ok, not sure about Lyons being the closer. The one thing that concerns me is they are counting on the starting lineup to improve their hitting, I think they better hope for a trade for a hitter. Hoping for improvement isn't a very good strategy in baseball. Definitely going to miss Carlos Quentin! :( What a magnificent specimen!
