I don't know about self-decapitation but he apparently tried to slice up his throat.

The papers make these beheadings sound like antiseptic events. Instead of a scimitar (like the Saudis) or a guillotine, these ISIS guys are using steak knives - more or less grinding thru the neck. The guy in Oklahoma used a produce knife. Not pretty: I've seen the beheading pics at catholic.org.

This is an omnibus thread about beheadings. Since there is so much on beheadings these days, Palbert has done the sensible thing and created a thread where all beheadings can be discussed instead of Hot Topics being flooded by individual threads every time someone decides that decapitation is the best way to get a head.

Correct...that is the purpose of terror....to terrorise people...which is why the wise person never permits the terrorist to succeed, and goes about their life without a thought for the images that daily appear on our television screens...I note that Western air forces have started to inflict some very real damage on IS forces......so much for beheading innocent civilians...it's payback time...

I remember that the guillotine was once considered the most humane method of execution.

There's some awful news about lethal injection lately, and I don't think the gas chamber or the electric chair are much better for all their modernity.

The guillotine is a far cry from getting your spine severed with a serrated 6" blade or even a machete. You ever cut through thick wet vegetation with a sharp machete? It takes many powerful whacks to splinter the ticket, its not a chain saw.
