Best - Ellen DeGeneres

Worst - toe tapping, wide-stance Senator Larry Craig from Idaho

I'll miss the many jokes about Larry, among them:

"This morning on Capitol Hill ... four bathroom fires broke out inside the Senate office building. Inside one bathroom, three big, burly firemen broke the door down, kicked in the stall, and Senator Craig said, 'My dreams have come true.'" --Jay Leno

"Larry Craig having second thoughts about resigning, and well I would add he's having second thoughts about tapping his foot in the men's bathroom. ... No, he's changed his mind and he thinks he's going to stay in the Senate, and that occurred to him after he saw the new batch of fall pages." --David Letterman

"A lot of people are calling Senator Craig a hypocrite because he was a very vocal opponent of same-sex marriages. ... But to be fair, he has never come out publicly against anonymous gay bathroom sex." --Jay Leno

"Senator Craig has now called a press conference for tomorrow, ... probably he's going to resign. He said that will be a private decision after consulting his wife, his children, and an anonymous dude he met at the Howard Johnsons on I-84." --Bill Maher

I can't worship anyone. :)

But i can hear their points of views and make my own judgement.

And now I have to add Don Lemon to my list of personal gay heroes. :D

^Intelligent, breathtakingly handsome and a Pisces? :luv:

I need to ask him out for a date.

hhe's all that and more

just not out of the closet. I think people say hes gay because he discussed being molested by a man as a child.

other than that, he has never said anything else to my knowledge. I hope he IS gay because he's hot as hell.

heres an openly gay anchor from MSNBC

BostonPirate, that first Wanda Sykes clip was hilarious

I actually expected someone else to have already mentioned him, but; Neil Patrick Harris. I can't imagine how many people have changed their perceptions of what it means to be gay because of him. He's such a likable guy, in every way, and people respond so well to that. Even typically 'homophobic' people who I've told he's gay respond in the same way; "Oh wow, really? .... hmm .... he's probably the funniest guy ever!"

"He's legen....wait for it....DARY!" etc. etc.

They see past their own ignorance and recognize that he's an amazing, talented guy. Hopefully that resonates with them and in the future, when they come across another gay person, they will do the same.

(That was a paste from my post in the NPH thread, if it seems familiar)

Have any good role models appeared over the last two years?

Anderson Cooper? Adam Lambert? Dan Savage?

My heroes will never be celebs or politicians who come out when it's convenient for them. Mine are everyday people who dare to live open, honest lives and are willing to pay the price for it.

I don't think CC is qualified as a role model. He is still finding himself but he is surviving. You should try to be a role model for your friends and up and coming gays that you come into contact with. We all have flaws but we all have life experiences to pass on. If we followed public figures around all day, I'm sure you would catch them doing things you wouldn't consider "appropriate" but it doesn't make them not a nice person, it make them like everyone else. The only thing about them is they are visible to more people than most of us are but I don't think the term "role model" should be forced upon them. I love Coop and what he does and how he has accepted himself publicly. I can see it on his shows, now that he is out, how much free he is and relaxed. One could take that as something to aspire to, being true to yourself. Everyone is not in a position like Coop though. If he came out and got fired, his life would not be in ruins, he would just fine financially, only his pride/feelings would be hurt. You have to take certain things you like about people and apply them to your life but only if it works in your favor. I don't go out speaking to youth groups or anything like that but when I am around my younger gay friends and they ask me things or if I see them doing dumb shit, I will let them know how I feel or what I think and they can take that and make their own choices.

A few of the best:

Rachel Maddow, Sam Champion, Suze Orman, Anderson Cooper, Ellen Degeneres

I can't think of too many off the top of my head right now, but among the best are Dan Savage and Ellen Degeneres.

I'd give Ellen a positive rating along with Neil Patrick Harris and Anderson Cooper.

Elton John went off the deep end with his one sided cat fight against Madonna. Colton from Survivor was about the worst I've ever seen. He was nothing more than a spoiled, whiny, lazy stereotype.

My favorite: Lily Tomlin....she considers herself being gay a non issue and way before anyone else did their media announcement she has never hidden it...nor announced it. I fucking love that.

Worst: GO Proud

I am going to be honest:

Yes. You do need to be out. How can someone be a good role model if they are afraid of coming out? How can LGBT's relate or even know?

It is fine if he wants to say, "I'm gay, but I don't discuss my sex life." Most straight people don't discuss the details of their sexual practices either.
