I think both of you overreacted over the brown matter. Your friend may have reasons (maybe he's OCD or mysophobic or other personal reasons), but he's making it sound rude. You, on the other hand, muddle in this weird trivial problem like there's nothing better.

Just move on. Or break your friendship. Or talk about it with him, although I don't think the latter would be any good.
