Big Brother 16 (US Version)

Re: Big Brother 16

I'm glad Derrick won. Cody's answers were lame and hollow. Derrick was blowing him away with his answers.

Zach did a no-no by telling us who his vote was for but he was entertaining.

I'm also glad Donny won 5 million votes as America's favorite player.

So much for Frankie's 1.5 million twitter followers. oops He wasn't even in the top 3. oops

Re: Big Brother 16

BTW I think Frankie was bitter at Cody because Cody never let him get a feel, as many times as Frankie tried. That was why he said "I've had better." Of course you have, jerk, since you never had him.

Big Brother finale: Loyal to the end

bigbrother

It has been an interesting season on Big Brother. Toted as “the most twisted season yet,” CBS’s hit summer series certainly saw its fair share of ups and downs. With an early alliance that manipulated the game by controlling the majority of votes each week, (and was eventually cut in half yet still held all of the power through the game), the season did become predictable and somewhat dull at points throughout the summer. But it also spoke to how dedicated and capable this alliance truly was, sticking together despite some trying times in order to maintain their power and target anyone and everyone who was not a part of their group. The Detonators, the surviving members of the original Bomb Squad, arguably became the most dominant alliance in the history of the game. In the end, though, it was The Hitmen, Derrick and Cody, who were left standing in the final two, becoming one of the few pairs to ever make it through to the very end together.

Wednesday’s live season finale was a fitting end to the season. With two very deserving houseguests in the final two and a jury comprised of people who, for the most part, had a profound level of respect and admiration for the way that both Cody and Derrick had played the game, the stage was set for one of the most stellar finales in recent Big Brother history.

Host Julie Chen opened the 90-minute special with genuine excitement and enthusiasm, something that shone through from start to finish as even she seemed as sincerely intrigued by how the finale would play out along with the viewers. Before the highly anticipated final round of the competition was to be played live, of course, we had to backtrack with pre-recorded segments that would reveal which of the remaining three houseguests would make it to that live final round and, ultimately, who would face off against one another for the grand prize.

Following the typical formula, the first round of the final HOH competition was the endurance competition between all three remaining houseguests. This endurance portion is always one of the most grueling of any of these types of competitions played throughout the season. While Victoria did her best to hang on for her Big Brother life, The Hitmen proved to be too much for her, leaving Cody and Derrick to battle it out amongst themselves. Despite their original plan to have Cody win the endurance competition and Derrick to eliminate Victoria in the second round, Derrick found himself tempted to coax Cody into giving up and allowing him to solidify his spot in the final round. When his plan failed, Derrick bowed out and gave Cody the first victory in the HOH challenge.

Though Derrick expressed to Cody that he was concerned he would not be able to beat Victoria in the second round, he did exactly that and actually ended up beating her time by fifteen minutes, with Victoria taking almost exactly double the time to complete the combined mental and physical challenge. It was a landslide victory, one that should have come as no surprise given Victoria’s season-long inability to succeed at anything even remotely physical, and it secured both Derrick and Cody a spot in the final portion of the competition.

When the competition came down to a nail-biting tie breaker, Cody edged out Derrick and earned himself the coveted title of the final HOH of the season. With the sole power to evict one last houseguest and chose who to sit next to in the final two, Cody made an extremely respectable yet also somewhat surprising decision; he opted to stay loyal to his fellow Hitman, Derrick, and evicted Victoria instead.

It was actually rather refreshing to see Cody make this decision without any hesitation, honouring his deal with Derrick despite the fact that bringing Victoria with him to the final two would have almost definitely secured him the $500,000 grand prize. It was a move not often seen on Big Brother, yet it was one that would cement The Hitmen in the history books of the game as one of the most successful alliances of all time. In the end, Cody was willing to settle for second place if it came down to that in order to stay true to his partner throughout the game. That is a rarity on Big Brother and is a true testament to Cody’s character and sense of loyalty.

With two very deserving people sitting in the final two, another rarity in this game, the jury certainly had their work cut out for them to decide whether Cody or Derrick should be crowned the winner of BB16. In a pre-recorded segment earlier in the episode, legendary Big Brother contestant, Will Kirby, returned to ask the jurors to share their thoughts about Cody, Derrick, and Victoria. While the segment, at times, seemed to hint that there could be some very bitter jury members, it also revealed that many of these past evictees gave a great deal of credit to both Cody and Derrick, and even to Victoria on some level, for their stellar gameplay this season.

Ultimately, with some time to think about the questions Will had posed to them, it seemed the vast majority of the jury entered the Big Brother studio on Wednesday with no grudges and tons of respect for both Cody and Derrick, making this a rather difficult decision. Once the final two had addressed their collective questions and made their final statements, each of the jury members seemed convinced as to who deserved to win the game. Truthfully, both Cody and Derrick made sound arguments as to why they should be crowned the winner of BB16. Cody had won some very important competitions, especially the vital ones towards the end of the season, and had played a very smart social game to collect information from the majority of his fellow houseguests, information that helped get he and Derrick further in the game together. Meanwhile, Derrick managed to not only control nearly every nomination and eviction all season, but also did it quietly enough to never put a target on his own back. Throughout the game, Derrick called the shots while keeping his hands clean, and made a very good point that despite the double nominations every week with the BOB twist, he made it through the entire season without ever being nominated for eviction. Truly, that was a feat all on its own, but to also achieve that while ultimately controlling who was evicted for most of the season was simply incredible. In the end, the jury cast their votes and while the commentary from each of them certainly suggested that they were leaning towards Derrick, one can never really know for sure, especially with both he and Cody making very convincing arguments.

Once the votes were cast, the first five evicted houseguests were reunited with the jury members, along with Cody and Derrick as well, and some the season’s biggest secrets were revealed. While this portion of the live finale is usually rushed and somewhat anticlimactic, this year’s revelations were fantastic enough to maintain a level of interest through this segment. Julie revealed the Team America twist, much to the shock and delight of the jury members, perhaps with the exception of poor Zach, who had been the victim of a number of their missions. But the revelation that Derrick had hidden his true professional identity from his fellow houseguests for the entire season, not wanting them to know that he was not only a police officer, but had also served as an undercover officer for a few years, had every one of the houseguest absolutely floored with shock and amazement. Knowing the truth, perhaps some of those jury members came to understand how Derrick had been able to play them and manipulate them so well without being caught, something that may have added to their level of respect.

In the end, Derrick was crowned the newest Big Brother winner by a 7-2 vote, with only Jacosta and Donny voting against him, officially cementing his status as (arguably) one of the greatest players to ever win the game. With a silent but deadly strategy and the ability to keep the blood off of his hands and the target off of his back, Derrick was constantly playing the game and playing his fellow houseguests, most of whom were none the wiser until they were evicted. Cody was a fantastic teammate and a great competitor in both physical and mental challenges who also had a solid social game and it was fantastic to see him win the $50,000 runner-up prize. With that said, Derrick elevated this game to an entirely different level and was the right choice to win the grand prize.

For once, this was a Big Brother finale with all of the perfect elements for success; a deserving final two, a jury mostly void of bitterness and snide remarks, and a great deal of loyalty and respect displayed despite the very nature of this game seemingly being very much the opposite. With The Hitmen making a name for themselves, Derrick cementing his place amongst the legends of the game, and Donny winning the prize for being America’s Favourite Houseguest, Wednesday’s live finale was a fitting end to the season.

What did you think of Wednesday’s live season finale on Big Brother? Were you happy that Derrick won or do you think Cody deserved it more? Did any of the jury votes surprise you? Was Donny your pick for America’s Favourite Houseguest or did you want someone else to win it? Happy the show has been renewed for TWO more seasons? Share your thoughts with us below!

Re: Big Brother 16

Frankie confirms to Jeff that Victoria likely would have beaten Cody had Cody taken her (according to what other jury members were saying in sequester).

Well now I'm even more sad because A) Victoria was obviously my favorite and B) the meltdowns from America because Cody lost to the ultimate "floater" would have been hilarious.

Re: Big Brother 16

Victoria winning would have been the most awesome thing I've seen on this show since Janelle said, "Gimme that key bitch!" to Jen live on BB6. I love the way Jocasta stressed that Victoria getting to the end would be "Ah...maaaaazing."

So that means not only did Cody bore me this season, but he also ruined a potential great finale for me.

Re: Big Brother 16

LOL. Screencaps of Frankie's priceless facial reaction when he learned he wasn't in America's Top 3 are making the online rounds.

Re: Big Brother 16

I thought it was big waste to bring in the HGs that weren't in the jury. They didn't even say anything on TV, or if they did, it was so brief I missed it. If they're going to be there, get their feedback.

Re: Big Brother 16

Yeah, I wonder how much the pre-jury contestants get for appearing at the finale on BB? I know on Survivor they get paid $10k for appearing which is a pretty sweet deal since half the time Jeff doesn't even ask them a question these days.

Also, this cast is so lame since there's no post-finale excitement like there was last year's trainwreck cast, when seeing those vile scumbags re-enter reality was almost as fun as the actual season. My only burning questions for this cast are if Christine's marriage is over and if Amber's seen Caleb's Instagram post.

Re: Big Brother 16

I bet Frankie will quickly forgive Caleb for that Instagram post because of his pathetic straight white guy crush. You know...like some guys on this site.

Re: Big Brother 16

How have I NOT seen this video before of Britney making fun of Rachel Reilly??

Re: Big Brother 16

WTF? Why was Big Brother being all cunty about Britney's story and telling her to stop talking, but three years later blatant racism and homophobia goes unchecked?

I think because she was talking about the few minutes she saw Rachel before they entered the BB house and that counts as "talking about production."

Of course only Britney could wring a funny bitchy story from those few minutes LOL.

We have another story from "I don't give a shit news". Dick from bb8 and bb13 is hiv pos.

LOL I love you. I'll be even more crass and say that Dick Donato now joins the characters in Rent as people I hate so much I could care less if they died of AIDS.

Delurking for a bit...

Frankie has been on a press tour since the finale, so ending in 5th place (along with being Ariana Grande's bro) isn't all that bad after all. I was indifferent to him throughout the season but have come to like the guy now and feel the dislike is really overdone. Everyone in the house said something problematic, even Donny, but weren't cited as examples and like all the other houseguests Frankie did speak positively about everyone just as well. This was my first time where I followed social media/online while watching the show and I didn't realize how hive-minded it is. That is no shade towards anyone here, just speaking in general (e.g. twitter, BB forums, Joker updates, etc). I only know 6 people IRL that actually watch the show and all of them liked Frankie and this was after hearing all the ~controversial~ comments he had made, plus the live studio audiences weekly seemed to love his antics, Julie especially. The man is flamboyant (I've read comments about him being "too flaming"), delusional, and a bit tragic but I don't think he's the devil incarnate.

Zankie was a storyline -- the only real highlight of this boring, predictable season -- that really showed all the ups & downs of a showmance, I found it interesting (not in a tumblr/fan fiction type of way) and since Frankie has left the house he has spoken about his love for Zach. His interview with Out.com I thought was a good read because it wasn't a one-sided attraction, Zach reciprocated and initiated a lot of their intimacy on his own accord. Yet a lot of fans online act like Frankie is in the wrong for saying or feeling the way he does and is just "leeching off of Zach's fame." For his part Zach publicly maintains they'll be "best friends forever," despite being baited over and over in his YouTube interview with a noted Frankie hater, and states he wouldn't have changed a thing about his game. Very interesting dynamic between them and clearly CBS is onboard the Zankie express, it's comical how much it pains some that Zach is still pro-Frankie. It was evident, apparently, on Day 2.

I don't doubt that there are people who don't like Frankie because he is an effeminate gay man -- Big Brother fans are THE WORST when it comes to gays, people of color and women, I'm frequently embarrassed to count myself among them -- but that's not the reason I dislike him now. In fact, that was the reason I initially LIKED and rooted for him. But halfway through the season he proved to be as entitled, full-of-himself and annoying as his sister.

And nobody else's comments inside the house included rape jokes about another houseguest.

Thanks for that. I'd never seen it either.

I can agree. Frankie seems to lack any self-awareness amongst other character flaws, but again the onslaught of hate just isn't justified (IMO). He had good moments just as much as bad ones like every houseguests did this season. (Zach was no saint when it came to Victoria and admitted he was trying to knock her out with that frisbee challenge. Where was the TMZ article on that?) Some BB fans act like he has murdered someone and should be held for statements he made months ago when he already has apologized for them in two seperate interviews. I thought he would have made some shady comments on the various family members, friends, and cousins (e.g. most notable Zach's family) on how they were acting on social media by now. Yet he hasn't at all and just keeps going about his business focusing on the positives. While the other houseguests are regulated to podcasts online, he's been doing mainstream press.

Ariana Grande's rumored diva behavior has been making the rounds and isn't a good look for her, but it isn't stopping her presence on (pop) radio. She's definitely reached a level where every pop star has that one nagging rumor that just won't go away. I don't plan on paying a meet & greet so I'll continue to listen to her music guilt free until I get bored with it. Sort of the same with Frankie, in the sense he presents himself well and is much more articulate then I thought he would be post BB, thus why I've moved more into being a fan.

From what I recall the infamous "rape joke" was more of a crude, inappropriate 3some sex joke then anything. Caleb, Cody, and Victoria were planning on drinking that night. As we all know Victoria is a light weight when it comes to alcohol consumption. Frankie made a joke about Co/Ca "taking all of her virginities." My perception was this: alcohol sometimes makes us do things that we may regret (hypothetical sex encounter with willing adults), there was no implication of forcing her into it. He then followed it up by saying he could dress in drag if that was better. This was a convo/joke amongst 5 people but Frankie's comments were the only one's zeroed in on (I thought Caleb's "blood everywhere" comment was much worse). I dunno... I thought it was something that was blown completely out of context and made a bigger deal then necessary (IMO).

Meh. Ariana's diva behavior is more than just a rumor at this point and if anyone on the show got hate they didn't deserve, it's Christine.

Frankie lands a role on Broadway in Rock of Ages (via People).

I continue to be impressed on how he's managed to make the most out of BB. The Grande name ain't hurting him either. It's funny that many in general tried to act like his sister wasn't even a legit pop star at first, acting like she placed 8th on the latest season of American Idol, or following his eviction/post show he's "using Zach." Zach better rethink his "it was all for gameplay" stance, those moments (especially ones early in the am) don't lie from the live feeds. And selling a musty gator t-shirt and a ripped up hat on ebay is only going to last for so long. Zankie was his only relevant storyline.

Meh. Ariana's diva behavior is more than just a rumor at this point and if anyone on the show got hate they didn't deserve, it's Christine.

Ariana Grande's diva 'tude =/= Frankie's tho. A friend of a co-worker's met Frankie down in FL recently at Disney World (with a picture to prove it) and said he couldn't have been nicer. From what I've read all his fan encounters echo that. Christine definitely didn't deserve the boo's she got the night of her eviction but is handling post-BB really well. Cody probably talked the most shit out of everyone but since he was so forgettable no one cared.
