There is a significant conservationist opposition to zoos, all zoos, but I definitely disagree with them. I do not believe a child grows to appreciate the animal world in the same way from merely seeing documentaries.

Yes, the real habitat and behavior are better presented, but not the presence. Being able to stand near a wild animal, even in a zoo, gives a different experience. Add to that the fact that children are then conditioned to associate wild animals as positive experiences, and it helps grow the green movement over time.

I agree - if it were not for zoos pandas would be extinct and none of us would ever seen one in person - I love zoos - they are one of my favorite activities along with museums....

Side note though... the "big cat" people like Joe Exotic are completely and utterly insane and it's GREAT entertainment!

Tigers and such are not domesticated and not meant to live in houses. It's cruel to them, not to mention the inevitable horror stories that emerge of them killing their owners.

I'd love a panther jaguar lion or tiger to eat my neighbors bitch dog. Motherfucker barks all day and night but you can't talk to them because she is a uniform happy bitch and he's on his 5th DUI so not the kind of people you can reason with. It was outside today I was hoping it would have been struck by lightning!
