Bill of Fare

'Eat all you like' buffets have become scarce round here as a result of the huge rise in costs for a restaurant. Ingredients are 50% more expensive than two years ago, with all other costs playing keepy uppy. Most customers don't pig out even though they can. It's the high rate of waste that makes it uneconomic, you have to cook more than you need to allow for high demand. If few punters turn up, thats a lot of good stuff thrown away.

I remember the restaurant chain, Golden Corral, advertised as the "served family-style eatery". You paid for a plate and the food was on a wall-to-wall buffet table. You served yourself and could go back for seconds - or more. It all made me feel like I was part of a cattle herd. Golden Corral, indeed.
I always called it the Hungry Heifer 😂

We have Golden Corral in New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley, so it's not a regular temptation to me. But I tend to overdo the salad bar and go easy with the meats. They probably like to see me because I don't go for the high-cost items.

The thing I notice is all those fancy european words, for extra flavour, evidently. But all used wrong.

"Rotes"= roasts? I don't think so. Entrées halfway through?

Here's a place I'd love to eat...

Where does your figure of 50% come from? Inflation in the UK in the year to October 2023 was 4.7%. In the previous year it was 11.1%. Over your two year period, the true figure was nearer 15% than 50%.
