No way is he a blond. Maybe in Argentina he might call himself a blond, but not in a white country will this pass as anything but a brunette.

Hehe. I'm a European of Argentine descent. I have the same colour hair, and in Latin America and the Mediterranean countries, everybody calls me blond. North of the Alps and in the USA, the call me brown-haired. Moreover, you would call my eyes grey, while in Spain and Italy etc they are considered blue.

So the poster was right: it depends on what you are used to!

I kind of missed this the first time, but Lostlover is way off base. First of all, Argentina has the highest percentage of European-descended people in the Western Hemisphere (they were just really thorough about exterminating their indigenous population). And second, any reference to a country being a "white country" (good grief!) is racist. There are no "white" countries, much against the wishes of white racists.

But Zeno, I know what you mean. My eyes are routinely called blue by everyone except people from the Midwestern US, where the term 'hazel' is used...because in the Midwestern US there are people whose eyes are as blue as the summer sky, and mine aren't that color!
