Freedmen, the Fourteenth Amendment, and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms

I've learned that one of the biggest reasons that people opposed the ratification of the Fourteenth was that its passage would mean that blacks would thus be allowed to own and carry arms, though some had only minor issues with blacks owning guns -- their real objection was that "Injuns", "Chinks", and "Gypsies" would also be covered by the Second Amendment. Also, contrary to common belief, no one disputed that the Second Amendment guaranteed a right of "citizens", "persons" -- or other words indicating individuals.
