BOOKS: What are you reading?

Just finished "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe," by Benjamin Alire Saenz. It's the story of two Mexican-American teenage boys in El Paso, Texas. They meet when Dante teaches Ari to swim. I loved the book...especially the ending. Just so right.

Turtles All The Way Down, by John Green. I'm a fan since the oh-so-great Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

Heartbreak Hotel, by Jonathan Kellerman. It's another in his long-running Dr. Alex Delaware series and also features Lt. Milo Sturgis,, one of fiction's best (and least stereotypical) gay characters.

"Auschwitz Lullaby" by Mario Escobar. A novel based on a true story about a German woman who was imprisoned in the death camp with her five half Gypsy children.

Victoria: The Queen: An Intimate Biography of the Woman who Ruled an Empire by Julia Baird. About a third of the way through it, where we've just learned that Victorian prudishness was actually Albert's doing rather than Victoria's particular concern.

Reading Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings for the zillionth time. She was an amazing woman with so much wisdom. "When people show you who they are, believe them" is one my fave quotes of hers. It's so true.

Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid, by Douglas R. Hofstadter

Broke back Mountain, Story to Screenplay by Annie Proulx, Larry McMurty and Diana Ossana

One of my favourite Australian authors Matthew Reilly came out with a new book this week that I'm reading. Its called The Secret Runners Of New York. Great book so far, I am two thirds of the way through.

I just finished "How to Stop Time," by Matt Haig. It's the story of a 400-year-old man...who looks 41. He ages quite slowly. But he can't tell anyone, because if they believe it...they will die.
I loved it.

What a FANTASTIC concept!!! I'll definitely be adding it to my list.

I just finished a rather long book called "Blackwater" by Michael McDowell. It took me about a week and a half to finish it -- but, I always looked forward to picking it back up when I had the time to read.

It is the story of a Southern Family spanning from the early to later 20th century -- with a little bit of "other worldly" mixed in. A tremendous book in my opinion!

I have a copy of that. Will have to give it a read!

Definitely do that! ..|

I had it laying around for many many months before I ran out of other stuff to read -- When it was only that, a tome, and 2 short story books left unread, I finally picked it up -- and am GLAD that I did!!!

By the way -- what I described as a "tome" is actually Ken Follett's final book in his trilogy titled "A Column of Fire". I love historical fiction and was totally immersed in "The Pillars of the Earth" -- but "World Without End" dragged a little (maybe even a lot) for me -- maybe the title should have given me a hint. It actually seemed like the book would never end. So -- hopefully, whenever I do get around to it -- his final book will be awesome.

Has anyone here read it? If so, let me know what you thought of it.

Thanks!

EDIT: I finished the 2 short story books -- they were so awful that I won't even mention their titles.

"The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons: The History of The Human Brain as Revealed by True Stories of Trauma, Madness and Recovery" by Sam Kean.
