BOOKS: What are you reading?

I am currently on book 2 of the Cooper & Fry novels by Stephen Booth, Dancing With The Virgins. I am rereading them all. I believe there are currently 27 book in the series.

A subject I know nothing about.

This is a story of two black gay men in Houston, Texas. There's lots of sex, some quite unhealthy. And since I'm now more than half finished, there seems to be a rock bottom and a kind of redemption. It's got some surprises.

1000000052.jpgBrian Selznick is a talented illustrator, and this book includes his art, but he tells a story well. This one starts with an American teen boy living for the summer with his mother in Rome. He meets an intriguing Italian boy and they explore the histories of Rome, including hidden gay ones.

I grabbed a few books the last time I had a day out. I just need to find the time to get to them:

-Evil Roots: Killer Tales of The Botanical Gothic, by various authors
-Grey Dog, by Elliot Gish
-The Woodkin, by Alexander James
-Leech, by Hiron Ennes
-Famous Crimes of Minnesota, by Michael Burgan
-On Writing Horror: A Handbook by The Horror Writer's Association
-Material World: The Six Raw Materials That Shape Modern Civilization
, by Ed Conway
-Cuckoo, by Gretchen Felker-Martin

I've made the most progress with Cuckoo, and it's...passable, so far. I feel Miss Felker-Martin should have invested in one or two further revisions, but it's rare for me to read an example of queer horror that isn't strictly Caitlin R. Kiernan.

Rome, history, and gay love: this sounds great!

I'm reading The song of Achilles.

I''ve just requested Cuckoo from my local library system. They have two copies. The one from Lansdowne is out on loan but they'll send the one from Furness Library in Wallingford, PA to my local library for me to pick up
