The ordinary rule of thumb is in play here, MoK - you noticed...I noticed...but when there's a retraction on something, the retraction *NEVER* gets as much "mileage" as the original statements do. And the amount of notice that a retraction DOES manage to get, seems to be inversely proportionate to the controversy generated by the original reports.
Example: Nearly everybody will probably continue to believe the original report about Pacquiao. (OK, true, he's probably NOT our "friend" - but...) On the other hand, pretty much everybody is aware that Pluto is no longer considered a planet, but that wasn't some really controversial thing that affected people's quality of life, etc.
