Boy dies after parents try to "pray away" his burst appendix

Baseless assertions might be OK in a hating chatrooms but aren't acceptable in a law court.

Their prayers didn't work.

Looks like, it may time for them to reevaluate.

the kid should have beat his parents with a hammer and when the ambulance came he should have jumped in it himself.

Five years probation seems ridiculous maybe they should have been heavily fined also. Seems like the legal system did not deliver justice. But the community might end up doing it instead?

How much do you want to bet they get the other kids back? If they can get away with only probation, the courts will give the kids back.

We live in an f'ed up world when this is not a crime with serious consequences.

I don't know whether it would be possible in this case, but in Australia, if parental beliefs are harmful to a child's well-being (such as Jehovah's Witnesses refusing a life-saving blood transfusion), then the child can be taken away from the parents, declared a "ward of the state" and appropriate treatment given. I don't know how often this happens in practice, though. Certainly beliefs of any sort should not stand in the way of rational medical treatment. If they do, then those beliefs are simply wrong.

.... "ward of the state" ...
and fifty years later those people will be whingeing to all who listen that they have been stolen and they need extra compensation

who cares.
Lots of JUBbers like to come here to JUB Land to vilify other people like JayQueer, Paris Hilton, Rupert Everett, Chicken shops, Christian parents and Republicans. My speciality is Middle-east Fanatics

There was a Law & Order episode about this. Well, not this exact incident of course, but this scenario.

I feel bad for the boy who died; His parents didn't love or care about him enough to try to save him :##:

At least Russel and Brandi cared for their child for 16 years before the incident happened. Their contribution was greater than that of Annette Morales-Rodriguez

Don't forget to include yourself in the list.

It's harder here. We protect religious freedoms and separations of church and state stronger.

These days, people are far more likely to die in hospitals and nursing facilities than at home – no matter what god they may or may not blame or credit.

Anyway, I doubt that there is a hospital anywhere in the world that would turn away a sick/injured child. However, someone will be charged with paying the bill. Someone may have to be sued. Someone with many kids to look after could fear losing their home.

I’d like to admire their spiritual convictions, but I fear poverty played a big part in the parents decision. That’s too bad.

What’s worse is many of those side-cult folks fear outside interventions and criticisms and are willing to suffer dearly, and make their children suffer, as well, to keep everything about their questionable lifestyles hidden.
