Boy dies after parents try to "pray away" his burst appendix

and fifty years later those people will be whingeing to all who listen that they have been stolen and they need extra compensation

Lots of JUBbers like to come here to JustUsBoys Land to vilify other people like JayQueer, Paris Hilton, Rupert Everett, Chicken shops, Christian parents and Republicans. My speciality is Middle-east Fanatics

Somehow we were endowed with foresight of sufficient power to have this revealed to us immediately before you posted.

Isn't that incredible?

does it really make sense to go in on some parents that lost a child due to their own ignorance? they chose religion over science and they have to live with the choice they made for the rest of their lives. there's nothing more to be said or done.

Probably as brainwashed as the nuts who left him to die.

I've had appendicitis. It's not the most pleasant feeling, but it isn't so terrible that you're kicking and screaming.

Mine did, and I waited not wanting to go to the Doctor the pain was incredible. It burst the day of my Doctor visit I was rushed from the Doctors appt that afternoon directly to the hospital for emergency surgery later that evening. I shouldn't have waited a few days to make a Doc appt.thinking I would feel better when it kept getting worse.
It appears this 16 yr old guy had it bad enough it killed him, that's a lot of pain and poisoning of his body. How a 16 yr old would not take the gravity of his own pain and sickness into control I don't understand. This is not quick death. I was in the hospital for 10 days after surgery and very slow recovery for another month.
Having been in a similar situation I can't believe a parent would watch that sort of suffering in their child. It is kicking or screaming combined with times of passing out. The burst pipe is a flood of bacteria and poison.

Someone needs to ram a Kris dagger in Mommy & Daddies gut and rub it around a little showing them how fun it is.

And this reminds me more of a Cthulhu inspired Metallica song "The thing that should not be"

Anyway, I doubt that there is a hospital anywhere in the world that would turn away a sick/injured child. However, someone will be charged with paying the bill. Someone may have to be sued. Someone with many kids to look after could fear losing their home.

I’d like to admire their spiritual convictions, but I fear poverty played a big part in the parents decision. That’s too bad.

What’s worse is many of those side-cult folks fear outside interventions and criticisms and are willing to suffer dearly, and make their children suffer, as well, to keep everything about their questionable lifestyles hidden.

Interesting point on the poverty aspect. However at what point does one's own compassion and humanity come into play regardless of cost?
When its easy to see that this isn't a typical stomach ache and visible signs are before your eyes and ears of wretched pain, changes in the body as the abdomen swells and discoloration, blood and pus in the urine or coming out of the ass, with raging fever and sweat that doesn't break and the eyes showing severe and increasing pain , well doesn't a human have enough regard to say "fuck the cost" this suffering has to stop. I guess God is busy with one of the other billions right now on the Earth we got to get our son to a Hospital.

You can teach them that they made a mistake. They most likely don't think they did and when their next child has an emergency medical problem they will just pray over a child.

These days, people are far more likely to die in hospitals and nursing facilities than at home –

No duh sherlock. Hospitals and nursing homes are full of sick people and they die. You don't go to a hospital when you are well. You don't die from being at home well either.

The point was in regards to the post above it, and to when and where someone’s god is available to be guiding and/or in charge of someone’s life or death situation.

Try to keep up.

what's the point of teaching them when they already learned their lesson?

My sister-in-law had a ruptured appendix several years ago and the pain was excrutiating. Even Dilaudid wouldn't touch the pain and only surgery helped. I can't even imagine what that poor boy must have felt. These "parents" should be locked up for a very long time for what they did to their son.

What a HORRIBLE story EVERY way you look at it...

I hope that their "praying" rather than seeking medical care wasn't because they couldn't AFFORD medical care...

My interpretation of the bible includes seeking knowledge and wisdom -- you know -- that INCLUDES modern day medicine (as ARCHAIC and closely related to 19th century medicine as it is)...

And THEN they had to deal with the LEGAL DEMONIZATION???

Just such a heart wrenching story at EVERY level...

:(:(:(

I don't see them as a threat to society -- therefore, I disagree about the imprisonment part...

We put WAY TOO MANY of our FELLOW citizens behind bars with NO EMPATHY...

I don't want to live in THAT KIND of SOCIETY...

What do you mean? They were demonised by the judicial system as well as the JUB Christian Haters?

Ah, no, the judicial system held them responsible. The JUB Christian haters had nothing to do with it.

But good luck with that thinking.

I don't agree with criminalizing people for opting out of medical treatment, even for their children. .
Well I do, it's a needless, senseless death. It's like a kid on fire and parents praying over him to let the fire go out instead of putting it out.

Which one would this kid have chosen? Prayer and a horrible painful death or medical intervention?

I agree that criminalization is wrong if we can gut the parents with a rusty spoon instead.

Wouldn't the boy have been able to call 911 and get himself into the hospital? Not trying to protect those tragic wastes of human skin at all .. just wondering if the boy was too brainwashed to try or if he didn't have any chance because of the health care system ..

Actually, he could have. Once they've got a medical emergency and the person in trouble has asked for help, they don't have to turn back because someone else gets in the way. And when the patient is 16, there's a principle I can't remember that comes into play, something involving a presumption of independence.
