Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

As it is currently configured, you will still be “informed” by text appearing in a thin banner within the thread that the member you are ignoring has added content to the thread.

I don’t facebook, but what you are requesting is to make the other member’s content become entirely invisible. Correct?

I think that could be done.

If other members are interested in that option, please post in this thread to indicate your interest.

Yes, basically. I don't want to be informed every time someone I'm ignoring says something; that just keeps conflict going because it incents you to take them off ignore to see it. I don't want to know they posted. They don't exist to me, I don't exist to them.

I assume that's what everyone else would want ?? Yes? No?

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

I'm looking forward to discovering whatever changes this will include. New emojies...yeh!

Wondering/hoping there'll be some kind of feature that will act like a bookmark in the stories section. There's been a few long stories with many chapters that I got into reading then had trouble finding/remembering where I'd left off, and finally quit out of frustration. Any thing like that gonna be available?

Thanks for your work!

Yes, a bookmark function in stories would be really good.

Modern ones, at that!

Today you "subscribe" to threads. In the new forum, you "watch" threads. Same function.

If you're in a long thread and you want to save your place, there's a bookmark function where you can mark one or more posts in a thread along with a reminder message.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Hello Jubbers,

I am excited to announce that our work to create a whole new JustUsBoys experience is nearing completion. We will soon be launching a new forum design, but first want to provide a few details about the upcoming changes and what to expect. I appreciate your patience and thank each of you for being a part of the JustUsBoys online community.

. . .

I want everyone to understand that discussion of the new platform is a two-way communication. We want to hear from you to talk about the coming changes and address your concerns. Of course, we also welcome questions. Please share your thoughts.

Thanks again for your continued participation and support.

Mark

Mark, it all sounds very nice and a welcome update. I hope the phone bias will encourage younger members to add their voices, even if I'm not one who likes anything on tiny little phone screens.

One technical question. Many of us have saved passwords in our browser or Windows, and it autopopulates for us. Although the JUB web address will remain unchanged, do you know if the new webpage software login will be recognized by our password memories and still autopopulate? I'm sure we can go to the saved passwords on our computers and find them if not, but thought I'd ask ahead.

Congratulations on the new era for JUB. I hope it is evidence of your commercial success.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Sorry to hear that.

Whenever websites do a update/upgrade/new-version (or whatever else you want to call it) its never a good thing (infact its the opposite).
Oh well..don't really matter I'm not on here much anymore anyway.

Everything will work so much better. Even I don't really like posting on JUB on the current software and will definitely be posting more on the new one. Mobile will be way better so hopefully we get some younger peeps on here.

As for your question that is a good one but I am guessing you are going to have to enter your login again because Xenforo has to be in the root of whatever domain that points to it. So the new software won't be at justusboys.com/forum/ it will be on something like forum.justusboys.com. So that is most likely going to prompt you for a login. We will have to make sure the forgot password works for sure so thanks for bringing this up. :-)

I completely agree with you 100% that happens a lot when websites upgrade. I'm honestly shocked the current software JUB is running on even works still. It is like 10 years outdated without any updates. We can't really rely on VBulletin anymore, we can't upgrade it and I know this new software is going to make everything much better.

I hope you will join us more often once we get everything updated. :D

Those of us who have been around and survived previous JUB upgrades (and have the scars to prove it) understand where you are coming from.

As Mark mentioned, one of the things prompting the change was that we have had so many nightmarish experiences with upgrades. The last few were so painful that we're currently running on a 10 year old version of vBulletin. So painful that we gave up on trying to convert from vBulletin 4.5 to vBulletin 5.0.

XenForo's main developer used to work for vBulletin. He left vBulletin out of frustration over a decade ago to build a better platform. Since then, a lot of vB customers have changed over to XenForo.

XenForo looks a lot like our current forum. It just works so much better and it looks so much more modern. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Another site I frequent just switched to XenForo today. I miss seeing the number of views a thread has had.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

I just noticed that the users who commented on my posts are no longer identified. What's up with that?

The thing with xenForo is it is built in a way that most screens can be customized. For example, in the new JUB forum, we will be displaying the number of replies and number of views like we do today.

ThreadDisplay-white-1.jpg

If you're not seeing it on that other forum, put in a request and get them to add it back.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

will we still be able to leave User Comments?

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

JUB leaders - thanks for making these upgrades! Thanks for all your work to keep us involved!

Its just been my experience through the years(and getting far worse in the last few) that when a site does an upgrade so many times they don't work right (or in some cases don't work at all)
(some other website would be the most recent..and a prime example: the did an "upgrade" this summer... now all I get is a blank screen even trying a couple different browsers. I gave up on that website (certainly miss the storm/weather servers I visited), but it flat out isn't going to work anymore . LOL

Hopefully XenForo won't be like that (and won't be overloaded with a bunch of Javascript & CSS like so many sites...those things are where the issues arise)
Basically hope it actually works with the browsers I use (which aren't those 3 or 4 everyone's heard of) .LOL. (& ideally JavaScript off)

Yep..I've been here long enough to remember a few of those... one in particular that was so bad you guys had to back-track to the previous version
I certainly hope this one is less painful on your end! (and in the end breathes more life into the forum)
Awhile back I kinda remember somewhere else seeing that bit about XenForo's developer.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

will we still be able to leave User Comments?

The current configuration in the new design allows you to “Like” another member’s post and add one of several emojis. Posts that have been liked will include a banner at the bottom to indicate how many members have liked the post.

attachment.php

It is possible to add a post comment system to the new design; however, you can just as easily send the member a message by hovering your cursor over that member’s avatar or screen name. That will cause a popup window to appear with an option to “Start conversation.”

attachment.php

Using the conversation feature has the added benefit of allowing the other member to respond to your comments as a default setting, or you can click a small box beneath the conversation text box titled, “Lock conversation (no responses will be allowed).” Locking the conversation when you first create it would effectively function the same as a Post Comment. The messages you send in conversations also have additional features that are not available in the current Post Comment function that would include all the formatting tools available for making posts, such as adding links, images, etc.

attachment.php

The disadvantage I see in using the “Start conversation” feature when responding to a specific post is that the system will not pre-load a title for the conversation, nor provide a link to the post to which your comment applies.

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Will it be easier to post images from image hosting sites?

Re: Brand New JUB Message Board Coming Soon!

Will it be easier to post images from image hosting sites?

Yes. It also includes a drag-and-drop interface.

It also adds image posting for animated gifs from Giphy. There's additional features for embedding media from Dailymotion, Facebook, Flickr, Giphy, Imgur, TikTok, Tumblr, Twitch, Twitter, Vimeo, as well as YouTube.

You can also share any JUB content with Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites.
