Sarah Palin was touting how to teach children, and the only course for sex ed should be abstinence only. She spouted "family values". Her child Bristol was 17 at the time of getting knocked up, and a legal charge of Sarah & her husband. It's pretty retarded to think that you can hold up your views on family values and children's education programs, when you very own children can't live up to the shit you spew.

Earmarks are such a red herring. Many of them are worthwhile and, if you go rid of all of them, you wouldn't change more than 2% of the budget and the projects that needed to be funded would still need to be funded. Earmarks, blackberries, teleprompters...all nonsense from folk who have nothing positive to contribute.

As for Bristol and Levi, Palin painted herself as an anti-gay no sex before marriage family values candidate so, obviously, it's of interest if even her own daughter can't live up to Palin's moral requirements and says as much.

Palin also used Bristol and Levi as props when she accepted her nomination so the fact that they can't get it together after having a child together even for a year or so just shows you how phony that image was.

Like it or not, it's great fodder for the Dems so they're going to use it. As funny as it would be, you have to be delusional to want to see the Palin family Gerry Springer show in the White House.

Their split, none the less, is unfortunate and sad.

When couples that young split, with a baby, it's almost never on decent terms treating each other decently or as friends, as you fantasize for them. Not that your fantasy isn't lovely, but it isn't the way it usually goes. Even mature couples usually have a rough time of it. Dreams and expectations are disappointed, there's misunderstanding, hurt and anger. Circumstances like that tend to change us, and not in happy ways. And, IMO, from what I've seen of the two families, they don't seem to have good conflict resolution skills (the Palins seem controlling with a taste for revenge, and Levi's mother apparently has drug issues); it's a pretty good bet that Bristol and Levi will end up quarreling through their parenting with their families egging them on, and another child will grow up damaged.

The Palin children were not trotted on stage as models of GOP family values, they were brought on stage for the reason all children of politicians and other famous people are -- to endear the famous adults to the audience, to soften the feelings of those watching, for the awww factor, the likeability factor.

The Obamas have trotted out their daughters just like the Palins and Bushes did. Republicans went after Chelsea Clinton, and Democrats went afte the Bush daughters. It's cheesy and mean, and a cheap shot to use teenagers to attack their parents or something their parents stand for. Teenagers do stupid things and it's tough being a teen, and it's meanspirited going after them when their only real crime is being born to ambitious famous parents and being used by them for publicity.
