Ok, the gays of all people should know that just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good.

Britney Spears has her fans, regardless of how much we make fun of her and them.. I'll never understand why, I think she's an untalented train wreck and I'm really not liking any of her last 10 singles at all.

But all that is irrelevant to her die-hard fans who actually buy all the BS.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I think her stuff started getting decent when the computers took over.

I mean, her 90's shit makes me want to stab myself in the ears with a fork.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

...probably because she is now catering to a completely different demographic. The image is still unhealthy.

You should have seen her shows in both Chicago and Vegas. The crowd was mixed with couples...both gay and straight, young people, teens, mid 40's, and even some "straight" guys. That's a pretty wide range demographic.

And I love how you "haters" are debating Britney with me. I feel the love.

I seriously hope you didn't sit around your laptop and think those up. Not only are they not funny, it just means your creepy.

and #7??? Shank??

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I don't "hate" Britney, either. Fuck knows I've had my public melt-downs before from the stress of work and home and partying with the Hollywood Glitterati. That said, Britney Spears' music is now just paint-by-number pop with a single note being repeated over and over. Fun to dance too, I'm sure but in 30 years, this period of her music won't be remembered as much as the songs on her first 3 albums.

And it's fun to post mean stuff about pop stars.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

Stop arguing just agree to disagree and get over your egos.

Britney is the best anyway.

I'll probably get the collectors box and the standard one :P

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I just dont understand why people who claim they dislike someone so much, but they enter threads that are filled with fans of the artist. What is your f*cking deal? Go pick on someone else!

I don't get it either..maybe if the thread stated..do u like Britney?..well then that leaves it open...all it's just to give info..on her release..for those interested..who would click on the thread?....:D

People that have no life and use "its fun to pick on britney" as an excuse.

People that have no life and use "its fun to pick on britney" as an excuse.

And this forum is the best on that. They are desperate for attention

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

Now now, the reason it's so fun to pick on Britney Spears and Mariah Carey is all their fans get all upset when you do it.

Most of us don't give two shits either way about pop stars but the ones with the bizarrely over-dedicated fans are the most fun because of how upset their fans get.

I mean..look at Chris Crocker.. it's not like he'd ever have made a "Leave Dave Mustane Alone" video, ya know?

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

Which reinforces the desperate for attention bit

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I've gone into detail before, so I'll just sum up briefly.

I'm not a "hater", unless you define that as "anyone who's not a huge fan". I actually don't care much for Britney the singer, or Britney the human being. I'm only interested in what you might call Britney the phenomenon.

I'm interested in people. What makes them work, what makes them tick, all that. And "fan worship" is something I'm intrigued by. I personally haven't been able to buy into that. I have my favorite music artists, sure, but I think some of their stuff is terrible, and would never consider myself a "die-hard fan" of anybody. So I'm interested in what the dynamic is when someone becomes a die-hard fan. What makes them go, how they respond, all that.

So why Britney? Why not Mariah or Whitney or anybody else? Because, to be honest, I find her "popularity-to-talent" ratio to be pretty damn large. Mariah and Whitney might not be what they once were, but they once were really good singers. Britney has never seemed to be more than a passable singer and an average dancer. But her Fans-capital-F have buoyed her up through a decade of popdom.

It's easier to see Fan Behavior in Britney, because I've seen more missteps in her career than most. The reality show, the marriages, the children, the tabloid behavior, the VMAs, Blackout. And through it all, the fans sat there cheering her on. Giving her major props for every success - major, minor and imagined - and forgiving every fault, or blaming it on anything but her and her decisions. And this fascinates me. Because it's obviously beyond a "I like her music" sort of thing at this point. Fans like these aren't just music fans. They've subsumed the artist into their own personas. Much as a football fanatic paints his face and feels that every victory somehow validates their existence, these Fans feel that every hit single, every TV performance, every successful rehab stint validates their existence. It "shows the haters". Her victories (real and imagined) are their victories.

It's queer.

I think you really nailed it.

I'll tell you.. someone said a while back that Britney Spears doesn't make a product.. she IS the product. She sells CDs and a perfume and clothes but the end product is her own fame.

Nobody "likes" Britney Spears' music as in "this is a fun song" anymore.. it's all about "this one will put her back on top" or "this will show the haters."

There have been a few good songs along the way but none recently. Her inability to sing has forced her record producers to auto-tune and re-pitch stuff so much that the records now sound more like a robot than anything else. The new single has one note in it.. there's no imagination.. just a few random noises that will sound good in a big club. And it doesn't sound any different than "Gimme More" or the second single off that last album I can't remember at the moment. But that doesn't matter to the fans... they'll continue to buy her records because the product is Britney Spears and they've already bough into and invested too much to turn back now.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I am with you on that Lex

I should not be that surprised about Britneys fandom

since I live an hour from Buffalo, and there are tons and tons of Bills fans...

so, really, not so surprised...

I guess it IS the gay, and/or girl, of the millions of die hard fans of sports teams that never really achieve much, or that achieved something many years ago... and now are a shell of what they were.

The world would be pretty boring if we all liked the same things.

Even if I write that her songs are catchy, I like her voice, etc you would still not understand it because you don't like her songs. I don't like something/someone by choice, I just like it and that's all :-)

I strongly disagree with that one

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I'll just add this to this thread.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

>>>The world would be pretty boring if we all liked the same things.

Well, yeah, but that's close to diametrically opposed to what I was saying. The fact is that Britney Fans DO all like the same thing - Britney. To these fans, it's not even that they like that type of music, or that they like a good number of Britney songs. They like Britney. For THESE Fans - who aren't necessarily ALL her fans, but a sizable portion of them - it IS as Jasun says. They're no longer enjoying pop music. They're "sharing in her success".

>>>I'll tell you.. someone said a while back that Britney Spears doesn't make a product.. she IS the product. She sells CDs and a perfume and clothes but the end product is her own fame.

I think that was me. I said that Britney Spears is mainly an advertisement for Britney Spears.
