Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

For those that don't understand the Britney Phenomenon. Everyone has different taste. I don't call anyone who isn't a fan of Britney a hater but when you truly don't care for an artist you live and let be and don't try to bring them done.

Sure you can call me a die-hard Britney fan but its because I've loved her music throughout her whole career. I remember being 10 years old singing Hit Me Baby One More Time in the shower over and over.

Everyone talks bad about her Blackout album; that album was incredible and was one of her biggest changes as an artist. I know a lot of the tracks on there had her voice heavily disguised but the beats and lyrics were pure club hits. Thats the year I came out and I remember going to the club and dancing to Britney songs.

Of course I want Britney to succeed, but I'm not a fan just because I want Britney to prove everyone wrong, I wouldn't waist my time and money on someone I didn't enjoy. I'm a fan because I like her as an artist.

I think a lot of people just pay too much attention to the media and base their views of Britney on it. I mean I've never met Britney but I have no reason to have harsh opinions about her.

I mean come one Britney is a legend and Jasun, G-Lex or anyone else can't deny it. Just look at your post dedicated to her. There is no other artist that has Britney's success and ability to garner attention.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I have to say Britney Spears may not be the most vocally talented artist in the current pop music scene, or even have the best songs. However, she has proven that talent and good songs are two different things in pop music. For example, her singles from her 'Circus' album including 'Womanizer', 'Circus', 'If You Seek Amy', and others like 'Shattered Glass' and 'Kill the Lights' shit all over Beyonce's latest singles. 'Ego', 'Diva', 'Video Phone' are to me a prime example of an artist with vocal talent, but doesn't know what the hell to do with it.

Well see... there is.

Madonna did what Britney's doing for a lot longer and never had to resort to letting a voice synthesizer sing her songs. She also knew when to drop the "sexy slut" routine. Prince did the same thing through the 80s and into the 90s. And those are just pop solo artists. Kiss managed to get everyone flustered and freaked out and managed to have mega-hits for the 70s, 80s and 90s. They still have HUGE grossing tours that dwarf Britney Spears.

The difference with Kiss and Prince and Madonna, of course, is that they wrote most of their material. You might think Blackout is an amazing album and that's your opinion. But Britney Spears had no part in producing it. Maybe that's the jigger with a lot of us.. we're confused by the whole phenomena of "Britney is the Best" when Britney is just the barbie who's picture is on he cover of the CDs. She has virtually no part in creating the music or videos.

I think we all know that if this new "song" was released by any other artist it would probably be ignored. Because it's really not that great a song.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I, personally, don't think it's that deep. Britney is just about fun, catchy, pop songs. Occasional songwriting and live singing with cool dance moves. Nothing more when you think about it.

I have been a Britney fan since Day 1. I was a fan back in 1999 when songs like "Crazy" and "Sometimes" were out. I am excited for this album, because it will be like a musical soundtrack to my life. Each song of hers reminds me of where I was at that time in my life. I grew up with Britney. My focus has been and always will be on her music.

I am only speaking for myself, not for all her fans.

However, I do feel that any of you who feel the need to call her a bad mother and a "idiot drug addict" (hi Jasun) are doing it because of something other than Britney. you are complaining about how people focus on her private life, and yet, that's exactly what you guys are doing!

let me ask you, was this thread about Britney's personal life before you came in here and began attacking Britney? were we all saying this new song would "show the haters" before you came in here and started hating? NO.

our focus was soley on her music.

don't blame us for something you started.

I think I love you.

:D

and her cover of You Oughta Know was amazing.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

Not really, no.

Huh? The topic of the thread is Britney's questionable new single.

Which is pretty much what I've been on about since the start.

Besides, it's always fun to rag on Britney spears for some reason. I get so few guilty pleasures.

It's always fun to rag on you. That's my guilty pleasure. :)

Uh huh. I'm sure those boys REALLY are gonna love growing up and watching Mommy on a stripper pole singing "Gimme Gimme Gimme" or seeing her writhing about the floor singing "Let's have a three way" in a few years.
Maybe you could say the same for all your porn star friends. What will the kids say when they find out daddy was in gay porn? Or even yourself if you decide to adopt a child, god forbid. I mean.. you work in the gay porn industry. That's frowned upon far more than anything Britney has done. I'm sure your parents are really proud of that.

Also ironic that you are laughing at her saying she's a drug addict when you yourself are a recovering alchoholic or drug addict or something of that nature.

Oh, and about what you said about Madonna, when did she drop the sexy, slut gimmick? She still does it at her age, and Britney's music is dance, bubble gum pop. It's not SUPPOSED to have deep meaning or anything ground breaking.

Anyway, back on topic. I haven't heard this new song but I hate to admit that I like "Radar". I really hated it the first few times I heard it but it grew on me and gets stuck in my head when I hear it on the radio.

>>>I, personally, don't think it's that deep. Britney is just about fun, catchy, pop songs. Occasional songwriting and live singing with cool dance moves. Nothing more when you think about it. I have been a Britney fan since Day 1.

I've got no problem with fun'n'catchy pop songs, as a quick trip through my music collection will attest. But for me, anyway, being a fan of pop music meant I was always much more a fan of pop than I was of whatever name was on the label of the 45 (or the CD, or the mp3). Sure, if I liked one song by an artist, I'd be interested enough to go check out others by them. And I'd go so far to say I became fans of certain artists. To this day, I get excited when I hear a new Prince album is on its way, for instance. But I still weigh each album/song on its own merits when it comes out. I listen to it, sometimes a few times in a row, and then - yes - pass judgment on it. And sometimes, it just doesn't pass muster.

I recall buying Prince's Lovesexy on vinyl the week (maybe even the day) it came out, going home, and listening to it as I pored over the lyric sheet. And I recall thinking that it just wasn't very good. There was some good material on there, sure - I still like "Alphabet St" (especially in its truncated single version), and "Anna Stesia" was pretty cool. But much of it was this confusing/confused mess of love/sex/spirituality that didn't work - either as philosophy OR pop. And "Glam Slam" was simply terrible. When it was chosen as the second single from the album, I remember thinking "Well, maybe I'm wrong - maybe this song IS cool, and I'm just not getting it." Instead, it became his first single to miss the pop charts completely, so I apparently had that one nailed. Hell, even some of his more popular material doesn't do it for me - "Cream" may be one of his biggest singles, but I've always found it lazy and dull. Maybe this makes me "less of a Prince fan", but I think it just makes me more of a music fan.

It's my belief that no artist - ever - has a perfect batting record. Objectively, they all put out substandard material from time to time. There's some less-than-stellar Beatles songs in print, and Elvis has tons of soundtracks as testimony to his ability to record filler. But I've noted that a lot of pop fans - and I'm specifically thinking of gay pop fans over the age of 21 - don't feel this way. They really do end up becoming something like "label whores", but for pop music. Just as some people will buy anything with an A&F price tag on it and think it's cool, some people will buy anything with a musical artist's name on it and think it's cool. And the justification is pretty much the same, too. "I just think A&F puts out superior product." This type of music Fan (of Britney or anyone else) believes, or has chosen to believe, that their chosen act really can do no wrong. Occasionally, I'll see a Fan say something along the lines of "You know, this one just isn't quite as catchy as her last one"...but it's usually immediately couched with "But I still hope it goes number one - you go, Britney!" I guess I don't understand that mindset. They might say "I just want her to do well", but as many of them can quote chapter and verse from Billboard and SoundScan, it would appear she IS doing well. Why is it important that she have another hit with a song you don't like? Hell, I don't even know why artists "need" to have a hit with songs I DO like. It's not like if the song only reaches #2, or #5, or #73, that she's going to quit the music business, or miss a house payment. Maybe that's part of being a Fan though - "may she always be right, but my artist, wrong or right."

I honestly don't say this to rain on anyone's parade. If you love the music, love it. But an additional thing I've noticed about these Fans is that people aren't allowed to not like their act. Plenty of people don't like Prince. He's sex-obsessed, he's anti-gay, his 90s material was dull, he repeated his themes to death. And such charges don't piss me off or make me brand them as "haters with no life". Quite often, they have a point, and even when they don't, it doesn't diminish my enjoyment of Prince any. I don't feel the need to "stick up for Prince". But I see this move quite a bit with Fans of Britney et al.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I freak'n love '3'. I can't wait until the new album. That will be like an early Christmas gift for myself.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

Britney will debut at number 1 this week (!)

She set a record too jumping from 114 to number 1 with 3 :)

Well first of all Congrats Britney...you deerve all this late career success.

Its weird how she is getting all these number 1s later in her career but when she had all those hot bubble gum songs she couldnt even crack top 20 or 50....

3 is a really hot song even though its very slack.

It sucks for Miley though. I am nowhere near a fan of hers but i love Party In The USA.

You know what the funny thing is with Miley? In Party In The USA she sings, "And a Britney song comes on" lol so its kinda weird how a Britney song is keeping her from the number 1 spot.

Its similar to a few weeks ago when Run This Town was 3 and PITU was 2 because Miley also says" And a Jay Z song comes on" lol

i think she is getting big hits now because digital downloading wasnt really popular earlier in her career, if it would have been back then she would of had many more #1s.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

saw this..it's awesome..debut @ #1...10 yrs on..her career still huge..& no promotion..was done for the song....

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

Quote from Billboard.com:

"Britney Spears becomes the first artist in over three years to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, to be released tomorrow (Oct. 15), as "3" opens at the pinnacle of the chart. Her new track, a racy paean to the joys of three-way sex from the upcoming hits set "The Singles Collection," due Nov. 24, shifts 255,000 downloads in its first week of release, also propelling it to No. 1 on Digital Songs. The title also jumps 38-25 on the Pop Songs chart and debuts at No. 49 on Radio Songs/Hot 100 Airplay, which ranks songs based on airplay audience on all radio formats.

"3" is the first title to debut at No. 1 since Taylor Hicks' "American Idol" victory song "Do I Make You Proud" did so on the chart dated July 1, 2006. In fact, the last four songs to open at No. 1 were all "American Idol"-related. Prior to Hicks, Carrie Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven" (July 2, 2005), "I Believe" by Fantasia (July 10, 2004) and Clay Aiken's "This Is The Night" each debuted at No. 1. The last non-"Idol" song to open at No. 1 was Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" on Nov. 14, 1998. "3" is Spears' third Hot 100 No. 1. Her debut single "...Baby One More Time" spent two weeks at No. 1 in 1999 and "Womanizer" spent a sole frame at the top, exactly one year ago this week, on the chart dated Oct. 25, 2008."

CONGRATS BRITNEY!!!

BOW to the Queen!

Where are the haters? HAHAHA!

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

I don't understand why you like this song. It's a bit boring.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

OK, before you celebrate the song opening at #1 too much.... a song debuting at number 1 has nothing to do with it being a "good" song or even a popular one.

Let's not forget the last time this happened it was that awful song by Taylor Hicks who's career face-planted in the mud not long after.

Billboard's number one song has nothing to do with record sales... it's airplay. All that means is that they managed to promote the song to enough radio stations to get them all to play it. They waited until the single was being played on as many stations as possible to "commercially release" the single... but it doesn't have to sell a single copy to debut at #1.. it just has to be on the most radio play lists.

And the song is a piece of shit that nobody is going to remember 6 months from now much like that horrible "Gimme Whore" song she released a while back.

Re: Britney Spears "3" Singles Collection

And no like I'm the best barometer for child welfare, but don't you think a mother of two shouldn't be singing songs about what a sex addict and pervert she is?

I mean, even Madonna stopped releasing songs like "Erotica" or "Justify my love" after she had kids.

Of course.. Madonna isn't a stupid white trash whore desperate to stay relevant and make a buck. And she actually wanted the kids... So.. ya know...
