It makes no sense to do a remake/re-imagining/ whatever possibility is being reported.

If they can't get the Buffy, Willow, Xander, etc actors back AND no Joss it seems doomed already.

It will still have those characters and be called Buffy the Vampire Slayer -, just different plot, different actors, and different head writer? Boo

Sounds like they're just remaking the movie & forgetting the TV show - which could turn many people off.

I read about this. They're seriously considering franchising the hell out of it if they made a movie.

The logic really makes no sense. Star Trek only works because the original series was several decades ago. None of the original actors can play their original counterparts as younger versions of themselves and the mythos is so old that it can be creatively retooled.

Buffy, on the other hand, is only 5 or 6 years old AND still has the canonical Season 8 going on in the comics.

I don't see how you can retool Buffy while all the original cast are still active and come up with something that would be meaningful enough to somehow launch simultaneous franchises.

They have NO intention of including any of the original characters and though they haven't ruled out Joss Whedon, they haven't asked him either if he wants to be involved.

It just sounds like such a doomed attempt to make some cash.

I think they are underestimating the Buffy fans. They are not taking into consideration how loyal they (we) are to Joss and his involvement in everything Buffy.

They figure they can throw the name on the film and we'll just run to the theaters.

You know what? They're right!

No matter how crappy it will be, I'm going to see it.

Goodness gracious, I didn't know TV shows had stans to. They might just make a good movie, I'd give it a chance before crying because it doesn't involve familiar faces.

Probably gonna suck though. :p

Has everyone forgotten that it was a movie before Joss ever got near it? I probably wouldn't bother to see it but then again I've not seen any trailer. If it had a good trailer, I'd probably wind up going.

I don't think anyone is "underestimating" Joss fans. I think they just don't give to shits about them. I think they know that it's a relatively small group of people and that all of Joss's post-Buffy projects have been plagued by low ratings so they won't bother to cater their efforts to their liking. I think like any generic action movie with minor name recognition the movie will make good box office and that's all they care about.

Joss wrote that.

I'm definitely not some kind of Whedon fanboy, but I do think that Buffy was a really solid show and a reboot of it is totally unnecessary at this point.

My apologies. I was unaware he wrote teh movei. I made a false assumption that because it had completely different characters it was completely unrelated to the show.

I'd never watch that shit. This is completely uneccessary, and I just know it's being done for the money and nothing else. Joss Whedon made the show what it was, and it just wouldn't be as good without him involved. Plus, without Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Steward Head, Nicholas Brendon, Michelle Trachtenberg, David Boreanaz, and James Marsters it's just pointless. They must really think us Buffy fans are so stupid that we'll blindly pay money to see that shit.

As others have said there's no need for this at all and they need to just cancel this shit.

I can just imagine the cast for this "re-imagining":

Blake Lively as Buffy
Zac Efron as Angel
Megan Fox as Will...I'm sorry--I just died a little inside writing this post.

The logic really makes no sense. Star Trek only works because the original series was several decades ago. None of the original actors can play their original counterparts as younger versions of themselves and the mythos is so old that it can be creatively retooled.

I think there's a lot to that.

Oh well. It won't be the first misguided movie re-make. Remember "Tarzan" with Darryl Hannah, and Dino DeLaurentis' "King Kong"?

No?

See!

not a chance in hell. what would be the point when i think of Buffy. I think of her Giles, Xander, Willow, Spike, Angel, Dawn and everyone else. it made me laugh even trying to understand the meaning behind this.

But come on, do people really think of Dawn when they think of Buffy? Let's be honest. How many of us are throwing her in there because we feel bad?

Anyone? Anyone?

I'm kidding I love Dawn, but she's such a late cast edition (technically), haha.

Why do they have to do Buffy? Can't these studios come up with one original idea?! Buffy was perfection. The cast and the writing were spot on. The original movie was really really bad. I hope they don't do a campy version!

I guess they could always do "Miffy, the Killer of the Undead."
