Bush declines Obama invite to Ground Zero

I think the plan is to lay a wreath, say a prayer and then meet with the families in private to answer any questions they may have about the operation that killed Bin Laden.

How would Bush's presence added to this? He has no knowledge of the mission and had no part in its planning. He would have been the 'third wheel'. Out of place, and with nothing to say.

Bush made the right decision.

As long as he is out of mind out of sight and not commenting about politics he is doing the right thing and people will forgive him.

He is going to lay a wreath there on the aniversary and I am sure Obama will be there as well then.

After reading all the responses it seems more likely to me that he's actually just giving Obama his moment, as everyone has stated.

It makes sense and is the most simple answer.

They should have gotten Cheney to shoot Bin Laden in the face. He doesn't miss!

I don't a 12 gauge worth of #6 bird shot would get the job done...|

Anyway, I think it was very gracious of Obama to invite Bush. It shows class on his part. Bush has been out of sight since leaving office and I also respect that as being respectful to the current president.

As much shit as Bush gets, (by far a majority of it deserved) he does 'get' things like stepping out of the way. I actually think he very badly wants to be there, but I think he also understands that it isn't his moment to have.

It was a nice gesture on Obama's part, and I'm sure Bush appreciates it. But they can share a 'moment' together on the 10th anniversary.

If Obama hadn't invited Bush, he'd have been flayed alive by every commentator in the U.S.

This way, the praise or opprobrium is directed only at Bush.

so, what's your reasoning for Clinton also declining the invitation?

if Obama truly wanted them to be there, I'm sure they would be, just like they raised money for Haiti at his request.

Link to Clinton declining it? Also, link to Clinton not being empathetic to people that died on 9/11. I posted the video of Bush belittling the importance of capturing or killing OBL just a year after 9/11. That's the megalomaniac. It's all about the megalomaniac and his fight against wrong where he totally disassociates himself from the rules just so he can win the battle (the build-up to the Iraq war...). Protesters, especially American protesters, challenge this simplified stance. "Why are Americans against my battle against evil?" Protesters shake Bush's foundation which is built on his interpretation of the Bible and the battle of good against evil. Anything that doesn't completely fit that mold is terrifying to him.

By not showing up, Bush the sadist (Bush never learned to mourn. His parents told him of his sister's leukemia and death afterwards. Barbara Bush said something along the lines of the Bush family not "doing" crying.) and megalomaniac keeps his belief system intact.

No. No. That's what we're supposed to think. Not an empathetic Bush.

Osama's death meant good won over evil. Case closed. His 2-D thinking intact.

Sounds pretty much like you're so blinded by hate and ignorance that you can't ever admit that Bush could do anything right. Have fun with that. Go off and play and let the adults have a conversation.

Nah,
too many presidents former presidents in one place is not a good idea.

Anyway, you can't force or blame a family member to go to a funeral if he don't want to. Simple

I think the two situations are not the same. One is about now; it is Obama's moment. Bush does not want take away from him that spotlight.

The second one is more of a reflection of history.

I think it is classy that Obama asked, and I think it is classy that Bush declined.

Well said..|. As much as I disagree w/ most of what Bush did during his Presidency, he has been a class act in 'retirement'.

Bush is a class act.

No reason to gloat about the death.

Just tell us what happened - no reason for a party at Ground Zero.

all the more reason for him not to attend.

Wait. Bush can't find time to meet with 9/11 victims and some of their families since it happened under his watch (admission of guilt). Yet, he finds it acceptable to campaign using photos of himself from 9/11?

Really?

You are abit petty Lostlover.
Bush don't want to go to that funeral because he don't want to go. Full stop.

Bush is a class act.

Class act huh? Does a "class act" preemptively invade a sovereign nation under false pretenses? Does a "class act" send over 5,000 American kids to be slaughtered in Iraq FOR NOTHING? Does a "class act" display an obvious reluctance to be seen with flag-draped coffins being returned to the U.S. (I know, he didn't have time to think about them.) Does a "class act" displace over 100,000 Iraqis (not to mention those killed) who did nothing to harm the U.S.?

This "class act" of which you speak should be locked up in The Hague awaiting trial for crimes against humanity in direct violation of the Geneva Convention along with Cheney, Rumsfeld and the other accomplices that made the U.S. appear to be the barbaric nation that it had been. The U.K. has already warned the "class act" that if he should come there, he will be arrested for the aforementioned crimes.

You make me want to puke.

Which has what to do with the topic exactly?

What a bunch of horseshit. I'll repeat what I said earlier in this thread:
