It looks like a deal has been made between Obama and the Republicans

Key points

Bush tax cuts for two more years.
13-month extension of jobless aid for the long-term unemployed.
Cut Social Security tax from 6.2% to 4.2% for 2011 only.

I don't want to hear one god-damned bitchy thread from you so-called conservatives on this board who think this is good policy, by extending this and not ballooning the deficit. Not a god-damned one!

So Jacko, BearDaddy, JP, and others please state here for the record if you are in favor of this extension. If you abstain the assumption based on your previous posts say you are in favor of not raising taxes at all.

So come on, one and all how do you think this will affect the deficit?

I support the president on this issue...|

Yep. And I don't want to hear anymore talk about lowering the deficit from the teabaggers.

They are nothing more than shills for the Koch Brothers. Every single damn one of them on social security and unemployment.

The Koch brothers have to be laughing. They have grandma getting off the commode to protest government spending while she's taking government paid for heart medication. And some redneck installing floors in Florida is sniffing the formaldehyde they lobbied to get off the EPA's blacklist.

So Congress has decided that the deficit should be increased and people who won't do a thing with it to help the economy should piles of money to play with.

And the Republicans were key in this, showing they're the party of deficits and economic fiction.

They should have ended the Bush tax cuts for high-income individuals and corporations.

Didn't have the votes for that. They either agreed to a deal like this, or let the taxes go back up to where they were before.

I'm fed up with the irresponsible deficit spending of conservatives.

That's fine, at least you're honest. But you can't say the deficit is a "problem" now given that stance.

Just sayin. ..|

Sure I can. I'll even take your position on the tax cuts to make it. Being as the failure to raise taxes and the extension of UI will increase the deficit, we need to offset this increase with spending cuts. How's that?

More importantly, this is a seminal moment for Obama. Never again will he have the moral authority to criticize tax cuts. He has supported "tax cuts" for the rich. This for him, is like George H.W. Bush's "No new taxes" moment. He's thumbed his nose at his base.

The problem with your stance is that it will never, ever, never happen Jacko, and you know it. You are arguing from a fictional, ethereal, fantasy land, place. Sorry, but you and your conservatives have ZERO credibility on this.

And frankly, I'd love for Obama to have a challenge from the left and toss this Obama turd out with the other excrement of the Republican party.

In this lame duck session, don't the democrats have enough votes to do whatever they want? They don't need republican votes to do anything. EVen if they did, there's still the RINOs in the senate. And the two independents. Some extreme democrats wouldn't vote for an unemployment benefit extension because they'd also be voting against a tax hike during a recession. They never met a tax hike they didn't like.

No they don't and you either know that, or are fucking clueless at how the Senate works. Which is it?

Is this on the employer and employee part (since I'm 1099 I pay both) or just one of them?

According to the Wall Street Journal, just the employee part.

The employer share of Social Security taxes would not be affected. Social Security taxes apply only to the first $106,800 in wages, so the benefit for high earners tops out around $2,100.
Obama administration officials say there would be no effect on Social Security benefits or long-term solvency.

Do you even know how to include a cite?
I didn't think so.

As usual ............ the left is bitchy when they lose

as for me ........

I would've kept the tax cuts for anyone under $1 million

and made the true "millionaires" pay a little more because they can afford to and these are difficult times

don't be so bitchy though

you got unemployment extended - and that's good entitlement (if you like that kind of thing)

and the middle class got their cut

just doesn't address the deficit issue

oops

cut defense
cut entitlements
cut pork

listen to bowles/simpson

I'm not bitchy at all. I'm just putting all of you faux-conservatives on notice that this thread will be BTTT'd repeatedly showing what frauds you are about caring about the deficits. You care about tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. That's it.

MRIII

you are arguing from a false premise

but we'll see

No, I"m not.

But thanks to Obama even less of my income will be subject to US taxes.

Fuck the USA. I'd rather support a country that improves their citizens' lives vs. corporations.

It's so sad to see how little America is doing for long-term American competitiveness. America refuses to invest in her infrastructure (one of the worst in the first world), her schools (19th at best), her healthcare (37th in the world), nor any other helpful investment.

well I'm one of the libertarian conservatives but the deficit has never been a high priority for me. I think its an important issue but the economy and unemployment have a much higher priority at this time.

My opinion is this is the really the best compromise I think could be made.
