Re: Gay marriage ban qualifies for CA ballot-what

I just saw an Equality California commercial during the Ellen show.

It was a women that kept stumbling down the isle during her wedding to a man and it asks the question:

"What if you couldn't marry the person you love?"

here it is....

That video made me cry....it really did.

Re: Gay marriage ban qualifies for CA ballot-what

I thought matters of civil rights couldn't be decided by the people...

So then, I can put a measure up segregating blacks and whites?

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

Here is a pic of Del (c) and Jason (l)...I have no clue who that is on the right.

Del was married to a girl...a real one with a va jay jay, not the "Hey girl!" type...they had two daughters, Caroline and Rebecca. In 2003 they got married...the rest is in the video.

Thanks, wow I don't know if him being married to a woman is something I just forgot or something I never knew. But I think I would remember having read he used to be married to a woman and has two daughters. Wow, you learn something new every day.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

I have a question:

What if Prop 8 passes??? Those already married suddenly lose their status???:eek:

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

From all that I've read...no. The marriages that have taken place are all legal and will not be removed.

Umm, ok but it would be weird

Also, how are the polls looking right now???

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

If it passes, I have heard that it would go to the Supreme Court. But I do not know if that is true.

I think that we also need to emphasize that this potential change would change what a constitution fundamentally is. A constitution, historically, has been used to protect rights. This change would be using the constitution to deny rights. This change goes against the basic fundamentals of what this country was built on.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Prop 8...where the money is coming from..for and against.

Interactive Map

Money from in the state alone...against 5.7 million...for the ban 12 million (ugh)

Have you noticed that all of the money raised that is more than our side was raised out of State.

For No On 8, we have actually raised about a million dollars more than the other side within California.

The problem is that the other side has raised about $6 million dollars more than we have from out of State.

Google Says Vote No On 8

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/our-position-on-californias-no-on-8.html

while there are many objections to this proposition -- further government encroachment on personal lives, ambiguously written text -- it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 -- we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.

That's correct. The proposition says:

Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

It's pretty simple. Same-sex marriages, regardless of when or where they took place, are no longer valid or recognized in California. That includes marriages that took place this year in California.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

I wish those people would just drown in their own ignorance.

LEAVE GAY MARRIAGE ALONE!

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

Gay marriages in California surpass those in Massachusetts...An estimated 11,000 couples have wed in the Golden State in the first three months since such unions were legalized

Did you notice that we have allready spent most of the donation money...eeekkkk...looks like money is desperatly needed.

In a report filed with the secretary of state's office, the No-on-8 campaign disclosed it had raised $15.75 million by the end of last month, including $1.36 million from donors giving less than $1,000. The no-campaign has spent $14.7 million this year, including $10.4 million on television advertising.

Ugh...election day is gonna be a long day...

CBS 5 Poll: Young Voters Lead Prop 8 Support Shift

depressing....what do we do now?

I wore a no on 8 button yesterday while doing some errands. Younger people looked at it favorably and older people ignored it. I live in the burbs of LA county. I was shoppin gin an area that is more conservative than liberal.

I will say that it feels awkward wearing the button. I have been out for a long time but to wear a button...and being shy...I just feel like I'm screaming gay right now ;) .....but it is worth it....even if it makes me feel uncomfortable.
