Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

after all this, pass or fail... this country needs to close the tax free status of any religious organization which chooses to push its own political agenda.

enough is enough.

Freesom of speech babe. Let's not forget that several churches donated money and spoke out in support of equality. Also, charitable organization are tax free as well, and yet, they also push their own political agenda. The non-profit LGBT organizations campaign for their candidate of choice and they are still able to remain tax free. In my opinion, it's a bad idea to infringe on speech rights.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

We should invent the GAY religion. And just donate to that. No Taxes :)

This is soooo off-topic, but I'm really glad to see ya posting again! :D

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

It's not looking great but it's not over yet. why are peopel talking like it already passed if only 26% of the votes are in?

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

Now it's not looking so great.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

53% YES to 47% NO as of 10:45pm. 25% of the votes in - I'm not giving up hope.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

like 33% now. the only problem is an awful lot of san francisco is already counted, and a lot of orange county isnt.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

As at 11pm California time (Tuesday, Nov 4), it doesn't look too good. Prop 8 is passing by 6% with a third of the votes counted:

One ray of hope is that CNN has exit polls still showing that Prop 8 will be narrowly defeated.

Damn. I meant "freedom." You knew that though, right?

I'm typing on Jason's pda (his CNN is working) and his keypad is weird.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

God, it's gotta be tough for those who have already gotten married...Having to wait to see if other people "approve" their marriage and all the while having the possibiily of it going void. *sigh*

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

DON'T GIVE UP PEOPLE.

There has got to be some light to this.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

What are they going to say to those already married? No, and go away?

They'll make sure not to let the door hit our asses on the way out.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

Next proposition: Should gay people who are married be treated as terrorists? Yes/No

While I am happy for the U.S. that Obama won the presidency, the existence of this "proposition 8" alone makes me wonder what kind of democracy allows the majority to dictate minority/civil rights when they themselves aren't even affected.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

The gap is slowly closing, but is there enough time? We all knew it would be close.

Oh, crap, I don't want to hear all the hate speech from the religious fanatics tomorrow.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

Did you guys vote by paper ballot or something?

Did you guys notice the difference in voting according to age. Voters aged 39 and under in CA seem to be very much in support of gay marriage. We're getting somewhere.

Yes; in another 39 years we'll have enough vote power to make it legal again.

Re: CA Prop 8-Gay Marriage Ban - news and alerts

"It's not over yet" but with nearly 50% in and no real margin change, all I have to say is thanks a lot hispanic and black democrat voters...the huge turnout may have benefitted Obama, but those groups traditionally dislike gays, so it helped prop 8 at the same time.

It's not over yet. You give in to easy. I know you're a cynic at heart, but try to see the big picture here. We have an African American President and some said that would never happen. We have an out and proud gay Congressman in CO. And hey, these old folks have to die sometime. We do have a chance at progress and equality. If Prop 8 passes, so be it. We'll find another approach.
