he probably paid more in taxes to easily cover his service.

IMO though his life insurance should foot some of the bill.

Charge admissions. Problem solved.

You can make the posters and stuff for the event as well. That's free advertisement of your services.

Does that mean I can finally buy The Golden Gate Bridge? I have wanted it for years.

He has done nothing for this world except make a really good album and maybe half of another one.

your opinion is obviously summed by this statement, so no matter what anyone says it's not going change a thing in your brain.

that said, he did a lot more than make 1.5 really good albums. his music and dance changed pop itself. if you turn on the radio pretty much all the pop is inspired by the man, R&B, even rap. MTV didn't even play music videos with black people in it until him. I really hope you hate pop and R&B, cause if you even remotely like any of it, it sorta diffuses your whole hate of MJ.

THAT is quite possibly the stupidest thing i have ever heard..

The "public service" is not for the public - there were only 11,000 tickets given out . The Jackson "family" comendeered another 9,000 tickets for their "guests"
it is a private party for them -- so the state / LA should pay NOTHING !!
AND they should be made to pay for all the EXTRA police/fire/public works people to support this fiasco - to the tune of 2.5 MILLION DOLLARS AND CLIMBING.
AEG Stands to make money on this through free publicity -- so they should be coughing up most of the money.. and Al Sharpton can go shit in his hat - saying MJ should have a postage stamp and his own holiday - J/C he' s not MLK !!

Insurance, what makes you think anybody in their right mind would insure him for $12.00??

The "family" it was reported - also looked into the LA colliseum for a 'service" and they were actually gonna charge for those tickets for that venue !! The rent must have been too high - and STAPLES cENTER - WANTS TO SEE their OWN fucking name in lights too - as long as the CITY is paying.
yet - state employees are being layed off -- cuz they can't afford them - but theyre' supposed to afford nearly 3.0 Million for a private citizen ?? BULLSHIT !! TOTAL BULLSHIT !

You should feel lucky you get to pitch in for his memorial. The man is a legend.

And you have no proof behind calling him a child molester. Don't forget, the charges were dropped against him - twice.

You don't know he molested those children.

What is indeed a fact is that human beings are money-hungry. And when they see an opportunity to sue, they jump on it.

I was hoping someone would call her out for that.

You guys live in L.A. For every event there is police and preparation, you make it sound like they don't do this all the time. Granted it's on a larger scale it's only once in awhile.

As for taxes, rich people and big businesses pay not only a greater percentage of taxes but also overall a greater dollar amount. You don't think MJ paid millions in taxes or donated millions to the poor? You are lucky to make one million in your life time. Him dying actually makes less for him to pay in taxes which isn't helping the state any.

And as for doing anything, he co-wrote ONE SONG which generated over $60 million in foreign aid. It sucks that "We are the World" didn't cure cancer or AIDS enough for you. It just fed a couple of hungry people.

personally I don't like it if the rest of America has to bailout your state for your state's bad fiscal decisions. it's not like my state doesn't need any help, but there's nothing I can do about that either. everything sucks now doesn't it

I have not seen any addiitonal money go to CA from the federal government yet. Even if they did, have you considered how way more money goes out of California to the federal government and sent to other states than comes back to california.

the police have stated that they already have a budget for things like this and they will just use part of the budget. The money is not being pulled from anything else. So I'm not really upset. Their job is to protect the public, no matter who it was. And that is what they are doing. If it was the pope coming or any other high profile hated/loved person, they would have to do the same thing to protect the public and property.

i completely agree stacey, It doesnt matter whether you admire MJ or not, the fact is he does not deserve a memorial expecially one subsidized by the state.

well, the writer certainly has the correct name for her. Not exactly an objectively written piece. However, I do think that we should pressure AEG to pay for it or at least a good part of it if not all of it, even though I realize that they are probably not legally obligated to pay for it. They should make a good effort to repay it as a 'so-called' responsible business and it would be good pr for them. If people make a big enough push, they may just do it.

The state is not subsidizing the event. The state is paying to protect the public on public streets. Every city does that for every event. When there is a large funeral for anyone, police normally escort the event to protect the people in the funeral procession as well as the other drivers on the road.

Oh, so they have to. They do the same for Pride parades, Christmas parades, and other events. This event is just huge and has come at a really bad time. I haven't seen this on the news b/c I turn it as soon as MJ comes up. I was beginning to wonder how on earth MJ's estate got CA to pay for the memorial. !oops!

Allegedly, this is supposed to bring tourists/businesses to CA. What do you think?

And Stacy, just slap "allegedly" in front of anything that might be controversial or unproven and you'll be fine. Allegedly.

Yeah - STACY - i said that up above too..
Listen sucka's - it's gonna be a nearly 3MILLION DOLLAR BILL. WTF??
He's a PRIVATE CITIZEN -- I don't give a rat's ass how many charaties he donated money to - If I gave $1.00 to 40 charaties - i could break his record. The money i give to charity PORPORTIONATE TO MY NON-EXISTANT SALARY - is FAR GREATER than ANYTHING he could have given..
And you know what? - people who donate to charaties don't ALLOW them to publish their names for RECOGNITION - let alone the GUINNIS BOOK OF RECORDS -- PEople who CARE - give for the cause - not for the RECOGNITION. and in case you pansies havent noticed - there are STILL STARVING CHILDREN IN THIS COUNTRY that could eat pretty fuckin good on 3Million bucks worth of memorial _-
AEG and "The FAMILY" are bleeding it for all it's worth -- IF YOU trust joe jackson - YOU are a bigger fool that I thought possible.

and BTW - - you don't pay 23M if you're innocent - LET THE family of the boy that got the 23M come forward with just 1/2 of what the memorial is gonna cost then - they should be sooo grateful they got paid off for MJ doing nothing --
next you're gonna say that OJ didn't murder anyone - because he wasn't found guilty !! And Charles Manson - well, I"m sure he was framed...
STACY isn't the only disabled person around here -- MENTAL DISABILITY counts too !! and I'm seeing way too much of it round here.

They have to protect the public. I don't think that it has to do with bringing in money through tourism or businesses. But I guess if enough money comes in, that may actually help to pay for the public costs. I have no idea. I have not seen any estimates on that.

I concur with the use of allegedly. I find it really offensive the way people throw around the use of child molesation and pedophilia. Those terms are disgusting and should only be used if it has been proven. People have to make assumptions in order to call him those things. And that it just plain wrong when it comes to something so serious, offensive, and slanderous.

There are many assumptions that many people make that are wrong. I did not personally know MJ and I was never really a big fan of his. I can see why he may want to pay someone off to not have to go through a court case, especially if money was not really important to him. If you look at his personality, he has always been very shy. And the previous case, he had to go through ugly depositions, embarassing photos of his genitals, how it affected his health, etc.

Personally, I HATE legal stuff. (No offense Alpha ;) ) I avoid it anyway I can. Depositions can be really nasty and horrible. The lawyers do that on purpose. I have never done one, but I have spoken to friends that have been through ugly business related ones. MJ has already been through a previous big case prior to the one he settled so he was well aware of what he would have to go through as well as his personal health issues that he had to deal with. When health issues come into play, you are sometimes willing to settle things that you normally would not.

Just wear a surgical mask and a white glove - maybe the crowds will chase you down the street - after all - everybody says he looks like a white woman !!

NITE NITE
i'M out too -- well - i'm not OUT - but I'm leaving.. yeah - that's it

Yeah that's cute. They've already announced tickets are free. The memorial is tomorrow. Big named celebs are showing up. The LAPD and LAFD are going to have to be on crowd control.

Thus, California's broke ass state is paying for a child molester to be immortalized like some sort of messiah.

We need help. Mental help. The whole fucking state.

Well, the whole MJ thing isn't the cause. It's a symptom and the patient isn't California. It's the whole country. People are just bored and aimless. Life has lost all definition and meaning. Everybody is searching for something that means something so desperately that they'll latch onto anything.

One of the problems that's been caused by the internet and the world getting smaller is that the whole collective is like one fucked up mind that doesn't really know what it wants. All of humanity's basic instincts and base desires and weaknesses shoot straight to the surface. All of our charm and grace is lost somewhere under the background noise.
