Can Pedophiles Be Cured?

I was going to disagree with you about chemical castration, and suggest prison or some other form of incarceration would do just as well.

But then I remembered having walked into a prison visiting room in the immediate aftermath of someone being caught diddling a toddler. His wife/girlfriend (I forget which) brought the little girl in.

As it happened, I was there to see a different paedophile, who was in for diddling a 10-11 year old boy. He was on his 3rd incarceration, although it certainly wasn't merely his 3rd offence. His known victims numbered 7, that I recall ... although I suspect the actual number may have been more.

but when i was in foster care, i was the youngest of the teenagers in the house, and i had to watch all the younger children all the time.

not because it was required of me,

all the teenagers were supposed to take turns, but i sacrificed a lot of days off, to watch them myself because some of those teenage boys in there where fucking nasty and wanted to touch the kids.

I don't think they can be helped or whatever, because what your sexually attracted to is just that and won't change

and i know i'll be called extreme or whatever but i think we shouldnt waste our tax money keeping them alive and prison and releasing them so they can ruin another child

i say we just execute them and use thier flesh as fertilizer.

why let good flesh go to waste? (that part was in jest but seriously........ they don't need to be alive)

No. It's a legitimate sexual attraction as opposed to a psychological disorder; it can be repressed, but not eliminated from one's psychology.

Here some food for thought.

How do we determine a pedophile? Would you call someone a pedophile if they were 18 (or above legal age in your area or whereever) who has had sexual relations someone below the legal age? (Where I am, it's 16). That is a case where an Adult is sleeping with a Minor.

Pedophiles are people (both male and females) who have sexual fetishes for minors. But do not act on this. When they do act on this sexual impulse it is then they are child molesters - pedophiles who have the balls to act upon their impulses.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, or question anything i've said. I've never had this type of discussion on this level. All my friends are immature

It's a complicated topic, definitely. I would say that pedophiles can't be cured just as much as you can't really be cured of your favorite sexual turn ons. You can't really take that away as it is not really a vluntary response.

However, this doesn't mean that they can't be functional members of society. The world doesn't revolve around sex (as far as I know), and I believe that even if someone is attracted to a child doesn't mean they are guaranteed to act on it. Yes, pedophiles who take advantage of children should be brought to justice, and those who put themselves in situations that might compromise their self control should reevaluate themselves.

However, I do believe that people have the capacity and moral judgement to live a life of decency that goes above their immediate sexual desires. Those who do not, in any lifestyle, may need to consider that they might be putting themselves and others at risk.

but thats mean because the term pedophile is used really harshly like the lowest of the low, but if a pedophile is someone who doesnt act on their impulses then thats not fair cos they havent done anything wrong and its not their fault they feel that way, so they dont deserve to be labelled pedophiles.

Pedophile defines as someone "who is sexually attracted to a child or children." It doesn't describe someone who actually physically "touch" a minor - that is a child molester. I think you're just getting them muddled a bit

There is as much chance of curing a paedophile as there is of 'curing' a homosexual or a serial killer.

You might be able to control the urges, but you can't control the mindset.

I just did a major research assignment on pedophilia for psychology. Pedophilia is a mental disorder and is defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as:

The paraphilic focus of Pedophilia involves sexual activity with a prepubescent child (generally age 13 years or younger).

The individual with Pedophilia must be age 16 years or older and at least 5 years older than the child. For individuals in late adolescence with Pedophilia, no precise age difference is specified, and clinical judgment must be used; both the sexual maturity of the child and the age difference must be taken into account.

The article in the first post is not written by a doctor, but a social worker. I hate how she writes "A pedophile will not stop on his own, and will not turn himself in, because he does not take responsibility for his behavior and denies that he's doing anything harmful. He will abuse until he's caught." That is not true, as many feel shame and depression. From this shame and depression, they will either seek help, or develop cognitive distortions and start fantasizing about children again. Most do not seek help because of the way society view them as monsters.

Cognitive behavioural therapy and gneral psychotherapy, which focuses in identifying and avoiding situations that trigger patients to engage in harmful behaviors. Therapists can also try to fix the patient's cognitive distortions.

There are drugs such as Leuprolide Acetate and Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone Agonists, which suppresses pedophilic urges and arousability.

So yes, there is treatment available, but i'm not sure if they can be completely "cured".

Interesting concept. I'm going to presume for the moment that you're serious.

How is your system going to work in those cases where there's no actual physical evidence?

How is your system going to work in those cases where the abuse is intra-familial?

If little Debbie is of age to understand, to one degree or another, the consequences of her testimony, how do you get her to testify against dear old Dad?

If Gramps is the perp, what's going to happen between little Bobby and his mother when push comes to shove, and Mom is put in a position of choosing between her father and her son?

My feeling as well. Society now says it is wrong, but was once the norm. In some places it still is. I am sure if there wasn’t such a stigma connected to it, it would be again. Things like “sexual like in society” comes and goes in waves, usually connected to religion as it brainwashes/changes societal thoughts. Give it time and the thoughts of today will be in the minority.

OK what about when I was a kid and let older guys touch me. I actually liked it and still don't regret it. But I'm not ruined. So What gives. I don't like kids but as a kid I liked older men. My mom used to say she never understood pedophiles that were looking for a fuck buddy or bf that was a young minor. She said no minor is looking for an older man.
