Can people tell you're gay from your voice?

There is kind of a "gay" sound to the voices of gay men that has more to do with cadence and inflection than how deep or high the voice is.

What amazes me is how many gay men who say "no, my voices doesn't give me away," but when when I hear them speak it clearly does.

And a lot of gay men look sort of "gay" too. Your friends usually won't tell you that, but they may have always thought it.

Can people tell? Probably. I've heard my own voice messages and it does have a 'gay' tone. My voice and mannerisms aren't overtly 'feminine' but kinda obvious at the same time.

Apparently not. I think my voice sounds rather gay, but no one who doesn't know that I'm gay suspects that I am.

People can't tell that I'm gay just from my voice alone. Some guys have feminine voices but that alone doesn't mean anything.

If I'm excited, definitely. My inflection goes crazy. I've done a little bit of voice acting just for fun, and I definitely sound gay (again, inflection). Also, I do when I'm on the phone.

Of course there's a "gay voice," with a very distinctive sound. We can deny it and pretend that none of us sound like that, but I think a lot of us do and our straight friends humor us by swearing up and down that we don't sound "gay," when we sound gay as hell.
