Canadian Jubbers... CFL!

They helped bail us out in the mid-90s, when the league was near crashing. Although we in Saskatchewan had the whole tv drive to keep the team... and it was a huge success.

Since then though, we have been making it on our own. The tv viewership has steadily been going up, advertising is way up... all in all we are doing quite well.

The NFL still does take our best players as they can offer more money due to the heavy commercialization and also the much larger fan base, but in no way to they keep us "afloat" anymore ;).

Although the funny part is... Ricky Williams was supposed to just tear up the league with his superior talent... but when he was healthy, he did shit all.
The original deal in the 90's saw the NFL fork over millions to our league in exchange for allowing CFL players to sign with American teams. As far as I know, they renewed the player deal a few years ago, leading me to believe the NFL still supports us financially in some way. There's been a lot of bitching regarding our players leaving south during their last year under contract or whatever it is, so why renew if we are able to stand on our own feet? NFL Canada also has a close working relationship with the CFL, making it hard for me to believe our league operates independently. Maybe they do.

And regarding Ricky Williams- he should not have been allowed to play here. Makes us look like we're a backup for NFL players to keep their skills current while they're not able to play in their own league.

44 - 23 Stamps win!!!

Great game! Burris is on fire!!

Stamps just lost a heartbreaker

The esks dominated calgary in the first half (22+ minutes possesion for edmonton, >8 minutes for cgy)

The stamps came back from a 16-0 deficit to get a 26-22 lead! but then edmonton had a last minute TD and won the game.

Give em hell hamilton!

I'm an Alouettes fan. We started the season winning seven straight, and then promptly lost the next four. :grrr:

Hope Don Matthews can right the ship in time for the playoffs! Fortunately none of the other teams in the east are very good. The Argos scare me a bit though what with the ol' War Horse Damon Allen, and the lovable Pinball Clemons at the helm.

I'm a fan of the often hapless Argos, but I must admit I have been turned off the C F L of late with team changes, teams coming back, penny pinching, lack of interest with so many low attended games. I get more satisfaction watching my boys in the American League.

Teams coming back? Ottawa just left... no other team has joined back in years. Montreal would have been the last other one... which was way back in '97 or so.

Penny pinching? They are starting to set salary caps, just like other professional leagues have, to keep things fair between the richer and poorer teams.

Lack of interest? The television ratings have skyrocketed in recent years, so I'm not sure where you are getting that from either.

And as for low-attendance games... those would only be happening in the East. BC has good attendance, Calgary and Edmonton always do, and Saskatchewan has good attendance - better when we are winning, but there are many many diehard fans here, Montreal always sells out Molson.. mind you it is a small stadium, Winnipeg also usually has pretty good attendance figures.

This leaves Toronto and Hamilton. I don't exactly know Toronto's figures, so I can't comment there, but I can comment on Hamilton. They are the ones that are really struggling this year, on and off the field. Attendance is shitty, and so is their team record.

Don't take this personally, but I love the CFL, and to see soo many untruths in one statement really gets on my nerves.

And...

breath in...hold it, hold it.....

breath out....ahhhhhhhh

feel better? ;)

haha nice rant :P

I think the CFL is going along great, they have a good product and there are fun rivalries.

The attendance is fine out here.

Yes, there are :D.

My Riders have managed to get rivalries with every single Western Team... and of course with Winnipeg... which is in the East again now. Yay for rivalries.

I must admit that its fun watching Burris light up his former team :)

We were playing like shit then. We've outscored our opponents 136-35 in the last 3 games. Yes, 2 were against Hamilton, but I don't see Toronto blowing them away, and they have the same record as us... Plus we were using our 3rd string Quarterback... and Damon Allen is a lot better than Rocky Butler.

Our Defence is also actually showing up now... it would be a far different result if you played us again. ;)... Western Semi-Final at Taylor Field? :D

We will meet in the western semi final, but I dont think it will be held in regina... ;)

Aaaaaaaaaaand I feel like ressurecting this thread for us Canadians :D...

Riders play BC tomorrow... and BC is on a 7 game winning streak :(... Hopefully my guys in green prevail.

As for Edmonton losing to Hamilton... twice... wowza.

Ya that must have been painful... I bet Maas was happy though...

Stamps have 6 wins in thier last 7 games. We just clobbered Toronto's 5 game win streak :D

WE CLINCHED THE PLAYOFFS! WOO!

I will be watching the Riders game today, I will also be rooting for them so the stamps can catch up to BC ;)

YAY!!! RIDERS WON!!!

We broke BC's 7 game win streak. Muhahaha.

Cant say I feel sorry for the eskies... they knocked out the Stamps last year in the WSF :p

Look out BC! The Stamps want first place in the CFL!!

And after a completely heinous thrashing by the Alouettes Thanksgiving Weekend, we came back and won in the dying seconds with a field goal :D.

What an exciting game... frustrating... but exciting in the end. :D

(im still bitter for edm kicking us out in the semi finals...)
You were probably pretty happy to see their 34 year streak of being in the playoffs broken by Toronto though.
