Caroline Kennedy to seek Senate seat

she can't be any worse than al franken

It's meaningless that she says "you know" a lot, and completely irrelevant to whether or not she's the best choice to take over Hillary's Senate seat.

Putting any focus on that is only a smarmy attempt to ridicule an intelligent woman in order to diminish her, reduce her power. We've seen a lot of that in 2008.

And what seems to me is going to result from all this is Andrew Cuomo being appointed even though there are at least two woman who are better qualified, having been elected several times to Congressional seats and years of legislative experience.

Bill O Reilly is from New York....make him Senator.
Nice load of chum, Maz! With the exceptions of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, I can't think of a worse pick than Bill O'Reilly ..... the man is an obnoxious, bubbleheaded boob. ](*,)

nonsense

he is a "traditionalist" who would work nicely with his senate colleagues to bring positive change for the state of NY

would love to see him on the u.s. senate committee on foreign relations

a natch ;)

.

It's totally relevant. If a Senator cannot take the floor in the US Senate and speak effectively she won't be of much use to the people who put her there.

When she speaks inarticulately, she diminishes herself - GWB is a good example.

When someone peppers every sentence with a lot of 'you knows' educated people tend to tune them out, and in a chamber full of mostly articulate men and women she won't get a lot of respect.

Send him on a fact finding mission to the North Pole, he could save a lot of lives by stopping the bloody 'War on Christmas'. #-o

Nonsense.

Plenty of people who're respected and worth listening to pepper their sentences with "you know" (as Hillary Clinton does) or "uh" (as Barack Obama does). Educated people who can't hear the substance of what people say because they're unable to listen beyond verbal ticks are likely to miss a lot of information and have, IMO, no business in Congress representing the People. Can those "educated people" you mention hear what their constituents say if those constituents pepper their speech with "you know," or do those representatives just tune them out as well?

I don't support Caroline Kennedy being appointed Senator but citing, as disqualifier, her saying "you know" too often is ridiculous.

Citations please.

Nobody worth listening to peppers their speech with 'you know' and 'I mean' etc.
In demonstrating their disrespect for language, they also demonstrate a lack of self-respect. You know?

NickCole;4630532 Anybody who shuts down listening over something so petty is going to miss a lot that's worth hearing.[/QUOTE said:
That's not very likely and it's hardly petty, unless you have zero respect for standards.

^ and ^^

now boys

i don't know about the "disrespect" part henry

but nick - from what i have seen/heard from here - especially recently

i am really truly NOT impressed

and her manner of speaking is off putting to me

she seems to be a wonderful lady - who has done much good

but does not seem IMO to be equipped or ready or any of the things you WANT in ur next senator

not to say she couldn't do the job

but i would hope the bar would be higher

She's not qualified, she does not deserve it, she is tone deaf when it comes to public relations, she does not vote, she does not support other NY Dems and she talks like an East coast version of a Valley Girl. Let Hizzoner give her a job.

She also seems like the perfect aristocratic foil for Peter King to run against - and beat.

Chance - We might see your guys in the Meadowlands afterall, although the Eagles don't really deserve it. Maybe a good Giants game could have you and Alfie sharing a blanket in the stands?

tell me how u really feel iman ;)

as for "running against" - cannot imagine a repub winning anything in ny - city or state for that matter - of consequence anyway

as for ur eagles - they deserve it - beat the giants and cowboys down the stretch

i do not want to play them - they have an X factor

as for sharing a blanket ................... id be afraid of fleas

and not sure he could take a couple hours off from frothing here on JUB

good luck next week

ps - had westbook in my roto league this year - he did good for me

report on cnn today says patterson is leaning towards caroline

that he will wait for hillary to be sworn in then pick caroline

yech

rhymes with .........

I'll say this for Caroline: She's better than Roland Burris. I just don't like the idea of someone being appointed because of her name.

Westbrook is great, he's half the team. We will see what happens Sunday.

There's no better way to show why I opposed Caroline Kennedy for Hillary's Senate seat than this, reported today:

Uh oh (uh ohs are worse than oops and wows), Caroline is a quitter, shows a weakness...........politicians must have a thick skin to weather pending storms...........not a good move on CK's part...........

^^ Yuki, I bet they offered her that "personal reasons" option because she wasn't going to be Patterson's selection.

Doesn't seem that way.

Her decision appeared to catch the governor off guard, throwing the Paterson administration into confusion and setting off conflicting news media reports. After frantic talks between the governor’s operation and Ms. Kennedy’s camp Wednesday evening, Ms. Kennedy appeared to waver on whether to withdraw, and was preparing a statement reasserting her interest in the job. But just after midnight, she decided to make clear she was taking her name out of consideration and released the statement saying so.
