Hey guys!
This is my first time writting a story on here, or ever actually. Some of the characters based in the story are based off the people in my life but their names have been changed to protect the innocent. Hope you enjoy!! (oh and btw the - in front of words means its a text message)
Chapter 1
What do you and six of your friends do on a Friday night, around 12:30, when you are in college? The answer to that is obliviously go to Steak N’ Shake! And that’s just what my friends and I did one night. We were all just hanging out and bored so it was suggested to get some burgers. Since there were so many of us, we had to take two cars. In one car was me, my best friend Jamie, her roommate Robin and Cam. The other car was my roommate Bobby, Brandy and Tina. When we got there the place was pretty much deserted besides the people working there, it was after midnight after all.
I’m sorry I lost my manners; I totally forgot to introduce myself. My name is Calvin Williams; I’m 19 and a sophomore at a college outside of St. Louis. I’m not exactly the tallest guy around (I’m about 5’6”), I have light brown hair and green eyes. I’m not in horrible shape but I’m also not muscular either, I guess you could say average. I’ve been told I’m cute but I personally don’t see it. Anyways enough about me, let’s get back to the story.
Our group pretty much had the place to ourselves and we were having a blast! We were all talking and laughing, we were being kind of loud but who isn’t when they are with their friends? About halfway through our meal another group of seven walked in, 3 girls and 4 guys. They took a long table next to ours. From where I was sitting, their table was in my direct line of sight. I could tell from the way the group sat that the3 girls were there with their boyfriends and then an extra guy who was like a seventh wheel. I kind of felt bad for the guy having to tag along with his buddies and their girlfriends.
When I wasn’t talking or invested in my friends’ conversations, I would “stare off into space” at their table. Not in a creepy way but in an observant-people-watching way. There were a couple times the seventh wheel guy and I made eye contact for a second and then one of us would look away. I should probably take this time to describe him. I could tell from when he walked in that he was tall I’d say about 6 foot, he had short brown hair and the sleeves of his blue plaid shirt were strained against his biceps. All in all he was pretty good looking and found that my “stare off into space” look was almost always centered on him. Jamie was sitting in the seat to my right so I leaned over and asked her what she thought of him.
“He looks like a seventh wheel” she responded
“I thought so too” I said “He’s pretty cute too”
“Yea he is good looking. His friends look like d-bags though”
“Mhmm but do you think he does?” I asked
“Not really. Oh my gosh! You had a breakthrough! You think a guy is cute that doesn’t look like a total douche. I’m so proud!” Jamie excitedly whispered to me. It’s known within my friend group that the kind of guys I like almost always give off a douche bag vibe.
“Thanks” I chuckled and then we went back into conversations with our friends. I could tell that the closer our group got to being done with our food, the seventh wheel kept looking at us. When the waitress gave us or receipts, he got up from his table and walked towards ours. He stopped in front of the open seat caddy-corner from me and said hey. Some of us, myself included, responded with some form of a greeting.
“Do you mind if I sit down real fast?” he asked looking in my general area. His voice was deep, but not super deep. It seemed to fit perfectly with the way he looked.
“Sure, go ahead” a couple of us responded
“Thanks. I’m Scott” he said as he held his hand out to me
“Calvin” I replied as I shook his hand. His hand was massive and you know what
they say about big hands
. I could feel butterflies in my stomach as I was looking in his eyes; they were a very pretty blue by the way.
“Nice to meet you” Scott said with a smile, he had such a cute smile “I can see you guys are getting ready to go but I just wanted to ask something real fast. I was wondering if I could get your number and ask you out sometime.” There was a tone in his voice that made him sound nervous, and that made him so much cuter. I couldn’t believe that a guy was asking me out! It’s something that I’m not accustomed to, let alone by a cute guy.
“Yeah sure” I responded with a smile. I wrote my name and number on a napkin and handed it to him. He took it, said thanks and then went back to his table. My group proceeded to get up to go pay our bills. I looked back and Scott had a huge grin on his face as he stuck the napkin in his pocket and was talking with his friends.
Out in the parking lot, everyone was all “aww” and “that was so cute”. Jamie told me that she always knew I could get a good looking guy.
“Man I was hoping he was coming over to talk to me.” Cam said, there was a slight hint of jealousy in his voice. Cam is a Freshmen at my school and he is the friend I’m the least close with. Bobby and Brandy work as desk managers at Cam’s dorm so that’s how he became a part of our group. As we were getting back in the car, I felt my phone vibrate. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw I had a text from an unknown number.
-Hey this is Scott
-Well you don’t waste much time lol
-I just know what I want when I see it
Scott and I kept texting the entire way back to the dorm and I was sitting in my room. Our conversation was mostly flirtatious. It wasn’t very deep; we just asked the typical ‘get-to-know-each-other’ stuff. I found out that he’s 23 and a recent college graduate. He lives in St. Louis and works in an advertising firm, which was his major. It was getting pretty late and I found myself struggling to stay awake while waiting for a response.
-Hey, I’m feeling tired so I think I’m going to go to bed.
-Oh wow, yea it is getting pretty late lol but can I ask you just one more question?
-Totally!
-Would you like to go on a date Friday night?
-I would love too!
-Awesome! I’ll text you tomorrow
Goodnight!
-Goodnight!
That was the end of our conversation for the night. I couldn’t believe the way my night had gone. Never in a million years did I think that I would meet a guy who would be interested in me at Steak N’ Shake! My body was exhausted but my mind was racing with the possibilities of things that could happen Friday night. I had never been on a date before and had no clue what to expect. I can honestly say that for the first time in a while I fell asleep with a huge grin on my face.
