This reminds me of a friend, who was a disaffected Catholic, who named his pet chihuahua Petey. It was sort of a joke to him, a play on St. Peter, to whom Jesus said "Upon this rock I will build my church," which Catholics view as St. Peter being installed as the first pope. My friend noted that "dog" is "God" in reverse.
