Re: Celine Dion Live

I agree. I felt the emotion in her voice back from the Falling Into You album. A New Day was kind of okay....but Ive spent all this time trying to figure out what about her voice makes me not like her newer material, and you said it - the emotion.
It also makes me wonder that if Mariah had the surgery and it was successful, would she lose the emotion as well?...Hmm makes me not want her to do it but at the same time I want her to so people will shut up about how she cant sing anymore LOL

Re: Celine Dion Live

Celine never had surgery on her voice, but she did have a problem with it clear back around 1990 when she lost her voice completely during a concert. She was developing vocal nodules. She saw a doctor who ordered her to not speak for some time (might have been a few weeks), but she never had surgery.

Voices will change over the course of time, and they say that pregnancy can alter the tone of a voice, although I'm not sure how true that is or how accurate, but nobody can expect a singer to have exactly the same voice throughout the span of a 25 year career. Celine put out her first album when she was 12 years old, and her voice has gone through a lot of change! People might mistake her voice changing for their own taste in music evolving.

Another factor for Celine's change is that she doesn't practice the same rigorous vocal discipline she used to back in the Falling Into You Days where she would not speak for days on end to rest her voice. Her priorities changed when she became a mother and she certainly isn't going to stop speaking to her child for days because she has to perform.

Overall it doesn't matter, and whoever compared Celine and Mariah to Pepsi and Coke was spot on. I've found that you either like one or the either, but not usually both. It's just a matter of taste and preference.

And one other things, McsNo1Fn, I find it ironic that you say Celine used to have the emotion in her voice when she recorded Falling Into You, but most fans feel that she was at her most robotic back then and only sung the song to sing it perfectly, and nowadays is when the emotion comes through in her voice the most, when she's not focusing on singing in perfectly. :P

Can't remember where, whether it was Oprah or whatever, but it came from her mouth that she had surgery to remove the nodules. I heard it straight from her. Just can't remember. It was some time ago, but it was within the last 10 years that I'm talking about.

Re: Celine Dion Live

You heard incorrectly. She lost her voice on stage around 1990, and opted to rest her voice, rather than have surgery. She had been practicing bad technique and was in danger of getting nodules on her throat. It's from this experience that she became so focused on her vocal exercises and vocal rest she was so known for before concerts and recording.

I'm reading this excerpt from Celine's autobiography, it's from her own mouth:

He said all the things that Dr. Belzile had said about my vocal cords being in bad shape and that this was due to bad habits. "You should probably have an operation," he said. Tear rolled down my cheeks, and I was reminded that Dr. Belzile had told me my voice would probably change after such an operation. It might even change so much that it would be unrecognizable and gritty. In effect, it would no longer exist. "There is, however, another solution," Dr. Gould said. "I'll take it," I snapped back. "If you are silent for three weeks, you could perhaps see some positive results without the risks and side effects of surgery." I told him that my three weeks of silence had already just begun."

Re: Celine Dion Live

I'm not deaf, I know what I heard. And for that to even be remotely true, then why is her voice completely different in tone than it was in 95, 96, 97, 98...and hell, even 2000, 2001? Your voice just doesn't change like that. Her voice is virtually unrecognizable. When I heard the new album, it sounds nothing like her. If I didnt KNOW it was Celine by reading the title, I wouldn't have. You're the FIRST Celine fan to say she DIDN'T have surgery. And youre talking about a different time period than I am.

Re: Celine Dion Live

Boy you're a stubborn thing aren't ya. So you're telling me you "heard" Celine say "something" about surgery on Oprah 10 years ago and you're questioning the EXACT QUOTE that I put down FROM CELINE'S OWN MOUTH, and you're still not admitting you MIGHT HAVE BEEN MISINFORMED, or misheard? If you heard the word surgery come out of her mouth, then it would have been from her appearance in 1999 and she would have been talking about her husband having throat cancer surgery.

If you can't recognize Celine's voice then that's your own problem. You're making it sound like she went from being Celine Dion to William Hung. She sounds like Celine, don't be dramatic. She's preserved her voice better than the other diva's that's for sure. And any real fan of Celine knows she didn't have surgery, so don't tell me I'm the first. This of course is not counting "fans" who casually listen to her and believe everything they think they hear about things.

It doesn't matter anyway, if you don't like someone's voice, you can't be talked into it by someone else. I'm only trying to cement the FACT that Celine DID NOT HAVE SURGERY ON HER VOICE. There's no reason for untrue shit to be flying around, because obviously you believed someone else who said she had surgery and now you're preaching it like it's gospel!

Re: Celine Dion Live

Okie dokie ;) Have it your way. No point in fighting. Regardless of what she says, you can't always believe the artist either. Like Michael Jackson only having two nose jobs and nothing else ;)

Re: Celine Dion's FL Home - 6.5 Mil gal of water/y

It's to water her trees, plants, and grass. Only slightly above average for a piece of land that big.

Re: Celine Dion's FL Home - 6.5 Mil gal of water/y

While I'd rather chew barbed wire than listen to the warbling bint, I will say this. She will have paid for that water. The water company is more at fault here if it's saying there's water shortages, and it's more than happy to take the money.

Re: Celine Dion's FL Home - 6.5 Mil gal of water/y

I read this in a report on a Canadian news website yesterday. It includes an interesting comparison:

Celine Dion is a water hog

by inMusic.ca staff
The Canadian singer is a town's worst water abuser.

Celine Dion's extravagant lifestyle has landed the pop diva in hot water.

The Palm Beach Post did a study of local water usage and found out the names of the area's worst water hogs. Dion owns 5.7 acres of land in Jupiter, Florida, and uses 6.5 million gallons (24.5 million litres) of water a year.

According to the Star Tribune, that works out to 250 times the amount of water used by an average Jupiter resident, or filling a 50 gallon (189.2 litres) bathtub every four minutes.

Dion is currently building a 9,800 square-foot home and her representatives could not be reached for comment.

Re: Celine Dion's FL Home - 6.5 Mil gal of water/y

As has been pointed out; she will have paid for it. If there are water shortages, supplies should be rationed, and if they're not... well, she's got every right to use them.

It's up to the local authorities to make changes here, not her.

Re: Somebody betta' slap Celine Dion!

Well I wouldn't buy an album, but I'd sure as fuck give my left nut to see her perform live, the bitch simply has it goin' on. Vocalists like her are one in a fucking million.

agreed. she ain't my cup o' tea but nobody can deny the girl can SANG!!!
actually...and i'm almost ashamed to admit, she's one of those artists that you kinda wanna hate, but sometimes you can't help singing along. or rather attempt to in my case. i do have a major hatred for the Titanic song, but sometimes i just find myself belting out "YOOOOOOOOOOOU'RE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE......"

okay...maybe somebody better slap ME!!!!oops!

Re: Somebody betta' slap Celine Dion!

wow, that brought my home office to a halt. She is simply amazing, I'm not her biggest fan but she was incredible and so talented.

Re: Somebody betta' slap Celine Dion!

Willsboy, who's in your avatar? He looks really familiar. Am I just spazzing out and forgetting someone famous?

I think it's Gethin Jones who used to present Blue Peter.

Re: Somebody betta' slap Celine Dion!

^ I just got ultimate chills from that song. Her vocals are absolutely breathtaking. And watching her tear up at the end, got me really emotional.

who the hell's Gethin Jones...and what the FUCK is a Blue Peter? lol....sorry. didn't mean to flip out on ya. actually my avy's Eddie Cahill. CSI: NY's Don Flack and he had a run on "Friends" as Rachel's assistant/boyfriend Tag Jones. Nik2, since you're more athletically inclined than I, you might have seen him in the hockey movie "Miracle". and yes he's just hot enough for me to sit through it..one day.
probably the only celebrity i find even remotely stalk-worthy. i wouldn't though...i'm just sayin!!!

sorry for goin' offtopic Marley, but i hadda let 'em know.

Re: Somebody betta' slap Celine Dion!

IMO, Celine is very talented, and although not really what I'm into when it comes to music, I really like her vocals, and her overall stage presence.
