Charles Manson [merged]

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

Manson didn't kill anyone in the past but orchestrated it, so if he got out, don't you think he could orchestrate it again. Just because hes old and frail means nothing. He has followers that would kill for him. All he has to do is ask.

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

"Charles Manson was a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me."

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

It's always nice to see a fool graduate to full on trolldom.

Not that it hasn't been coming for a while, but still, it's nice to mark that down.

Indeed. His 'family' committed the murders for him, but he was convicted of conspiracy to commit the murders which made him jointly responsible for the murders.

His family still exists. He's a hero to many. However, Manson was pure evil, and he still is. That kind of evil cannot be fixed.

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

Manson is schizophrenic and sociopathic. He needs treatment. Prison isn't going to fix him.

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

Why didn't they fry him ?

Manson was given a life sentence, but even if he did get a death sentence, it's actually difficult to secure execution today because of the appeals process. I would argue that Manson would not get one because of his mental problems.

California - and, I believe, the rest of the US - temporarily banned the death penalty while he and the rest of his minions were in jail, so it commuted his and the rest of their sentences to life with the possibility of parole.

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

^^Not that bad compared to 9/11 even which was miniscule compared to the atrocities of WW2 which was nothing compared to the Crusades.

Comparison of the numbers of casualties has no bearing on whether the guy is a psychopath

California's temporary reprieve in California v. Anderson (1972) was a state court case, but yes it did occur around the same time as the federal case Furman v. Georgia (1972), which temporarily banned the death penalty nationwide for several years on a technicality. California subsequently passed Proposition 17, whose constitutionality was only affirmed in 1992.

He plays the system expertly to stay banged up and in solitary for his own amusement

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

'Hero' seems an odd choice of words, a stretch/reach, but anyway, I don't have access to documentation/records that would allow me to make such a call, one way or the other.

I did read the book 'Helter Skelter' (sp?) some time ago. It was an interesting read, but was written, as I recall, by someone who worked in the district attorney's office at the time - biased, at least to some degree, I'm sure.

The book was written, and the actual events took place, at a time in America's history when it was quite easy to lie to the public (that's the way the public seemed to like it) and when anything 'anti-hippie', true or not, was sure to be 'delicious' - exaggerated, paraded, eaten up, etc.

Re: Is Charles Manson a hero?

At last...a race free thread. Oh wait someone will claim his crimes were racially motivated.....

Happy Turkey Day to you too (even though it really was last month...Americans late as usual).....

Frankly I am surprised the thread sort of grew overnight. I guess currently people are tired of the usual threads and took a break from being tired of being tired of being tired of HT.

LOL.

Tough talk for someone living in America, which, by the way, you're free to leave, and, like lamdaboy, then switch to acting smug and superior about doing so.

Ohh, you're from Seattle, pretty much explains everything. #-o

Is Charles Manson a hero?

I suppose if you are a homicidal psychopath he is probably a hero...otherwise...a definite NO

So...why do you ask?
