I think the problem is the definition of "educated".

I've had this discussion with a lot of 18-21 year old guys who think that "bodybuilder/personal trainer" is a career. The US doesn't need thousands of guys who are personal trainers, especially personal trainers with no education or certification in exercise physiology. They are interested in education but they are coming out of high school with a bad taste in their mouth about education. It's no coincidence that they are a generation shackled by standarized testing and teachers who have to "teach the test".

There is an anti-education movement that is being underwritten by a group of rich donors who have an interest in a pool of unskilled, low wage workers. Recently, in a State house, a Democratic member of the legislature gave a speech talking about magnet schools and how the train of funding school vouchers will end public education. A group of Republicans cheered at this line in the speech. Since the end of the Civil War, America has been committed to a public education system that educates all children. This is even written into several State Constitutions. In the past decade, there has been a group of Republicans who are determined to end free public education for every child.

The real issue that everyone should be focused on is providing a separate public education track for kids who want to graduate with a trade. In some cases, that may be an associate degree in medical technology or computer technology. But it could also be a program that graduates certified auto mechanics, licensed plumbers, welders/pipefitters or HVAC technicians. Free community college or subsidized community college is also part of that solution. As a bonus, finding an educational track at a school that they enjoy attending also increases opportunities for guys to make friends, meeting girlfriends/boyfriends and puts them on a track to financial stability.

If you've had friends who had long periods of unemployment or underemployment, you can probably attest that it's not good for their mental health. Working a job is also a key piece of the social life of men- we meet a lot of our male friends at our jobs. Having a purpose to get up in the morning, a workplace to interact with other people and a reliable source of income makes for a healthier mind and a healthier society. Getting these guys on a career track, into steady employment and a more structured routine is key to getting them out of this unhealthy "manosphere" and secular monk lifestyle that they've gotten sucked into.

I sometimes think that ICE was partly created to swallow up a lot of poorly educated, unemployed angry white men into a private army with loyalty to TrumpCo.

And I also think that TrumpCo., with the oligarchs behind the plan, are looking to create an even larger standing army that can take a lot of the other angry white men and permanently plant them in every large city in the US.
 
Part of the rage coming from TrumpCo. amnd the GQP is that they have lost one of their best tools to stoke this rage and it has created a chilling effect on some of the other hate merchants out there as well. Part of the backlash they fear is happening as a light is shone onto this whole bromo industry monetizing and preaching hate on behalf of the far right powers in the background. And so they are fighting back hard right now.

TPUSA, under the ownership now of the widow is effectively dead. No billionaire is going to give them 108 million dollars like they did for the last election cycle, to rally the troops, without a Kirk out there to make outrageous pronouncements that will go viral. He was, at the end of the day, an incredinbly cost effective driver of algorithms advertising the cause of fascism. They will need to invent another standard bearer and quickly.

It will be interesting to see where the big money goes in 2026.

Great idea. Finally something good has come out of this sorry saga! Wikipedia says there are fifteen public universities in Oklahoma. First rate figurative sculptors are very rare and very expensive, and there aren't enough of them in the world to meet the demand if this plan goes ahead, which means they'll probably end up with fifteen of this sort of thing:

Wouldn't that be a fitting tribute? Laughter all the way! More boringly, since two designs are specified (sitting opposite an empty chair and the family group) they could just get them 3-D printed, in which case limitless numbers could be erected all over the country.

Another wheeze which I think might occur to someone: publish an official anthology of Charlie's most inspirational teachings, aphorisms, words of comfort and hope. Give a free copy to every child starting school and they can begin every day by standing in rows reading that day's lesson out loud. It worked for Chairman Mao.

Any college kid worth his salt will knock out the security cam, then shoot up or blow up the statue, or behead it with a blow torch, or deface it.

It's going to be unavoidable.

That kid better make damn sure he gets every security cam in a five mile radius because should anyone get caught doing this, trump will probably have them beheaded. Publicly. To honor Kirk's wishes.

I wish I was a sculptor. I'd volunteer to design them myself. I'd have his wife on her hands and knees with a scrub brush and a plate of sandwiches balanced on her back, his daughter eight months pregnant, and Kirk with a small plaque engraved with his preferred pronouns: was/were.
