In a polarized political environment, it's only a problem when "our side" is on the receiving side. The Speaker of the House should be expected to ask for a moment of silence for anyone and everyone who was a victim of shooting... not just his side.

While it is an American tradition not to speak ill of the dead, it was a little perturbing to hear the pundits saying, "Charlie was always so nice to me!' or "He believed in Free Speech and debate!".

Charlie Kirk was a very disturbing mix of Bill Bright, James Dobson and Ralph Reed. He used religion as a tool for his far right propaganda. He was willing to hold his nose and support an autocratic billionaire grifter felon who attempted a coup. Kirk became a multi-millionaire through demagoguery, false witness and hate speech. His cult, Turning Point USA, has 1,000 employees and is bigger and more powerful that the Republican National Convention. Kirk was part of the problem.

The way that he died was inexcusable- free speech and open discourse on college campuses shouldn't be the vehicle to murder anyone.

As I have noted for many on Social media today, I think we all geneally agree that assassination is usually not a good solution and that we find anyone being murdered because of their views ( and not their actions) abhorent.

But I am utterly indifferent that it happened to him because I know he would have been utterly indifferent or even dismissive if it happened to a speaker on the left.

I appreciate the irony of Kirk's situation with his Second Amendment absolutism and his sociopathy... while he was talking about "trans shooters".

I would have preferred to have seen Charlie Kirk and his organization taken down by their own corruption. When there's that much money and power, there's almost always financial corruption and misappropriation.

Now Kirk is a martyr for another religion that venerates martyrdom. It's unclear whether there's a replacement leader with Kirk's PT Barnum-like ability to convince Christians that Nationalism and xenophobia is acceptable in a religion that used to believe that Christians shouldn't be involved in political chicanery and cavorting with billionaires... Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's?
