Chick-fil-A opening near West Hollywood

As you all (probably) know, Chick-fil-A has attracted controversy over this past year because it allegedly supports conservative Christian organizations, some of which have anti-gay positions.

Most Chick-fil-A restaurants are located in suburban & rural neighborhoods, where more "Republican" and "family values" voters live. There are Chick-fil-A restaurants on many college campuses too. However, Chick-fil-A typically doesn't open franchises in very liberal neighborhoods & usually not near any "gayborhoods."

That will change this September, when Chick-fil-A opens a restaurant in Hollywood, one block away from the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, and only one mile away from the gay mecca of West Hollywood.

The location will be at 6750 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. (Corner of Sunset & Highland)

From their Facebook wall, I found a public comment by Nicholas K. Donovan. He writes --

"I am openly gay and worked at Chick-fil-A for five years, even having the honor of serving as a Crew Leader. As a company, Chick-fil-A has shaped me as a person and taught me the importance of values and ethics in the workplace. I know dozens of gays and lesbians that worked beside me, and am sure they feel the same way. Chick-fil-A is an incredible organization, and I cannot wait for them to open their doors to Los Angeles this year..."

What do you guys think about Chick-fil-A opening up a restaurant in the heart of L.A.'s gay community?

Actually they do! They offer grilled chicken sandwiches, grilled chicken in wraps, and salads with grilled chicken.

Men's Health magazine rated Chick-fil-A as the "healthiest chain restaurant" in America, even ahead of Subway.

My neighborhood is not in the least bit rural, most of the Chick-Fil-A's in GA are located in either malls(Lenox in particular is a GAY EPICENTER for some reason), shopping complexes, and in and around major cities.

I'm indifferent. I really dislike their politics... but I can't stop myself from ordering a #7 when I pass them and am craving chicken. This makes me flawed as shit. :(

If it tasted like KFC, I wouldn't ever go back.

Yeah, they're in a few malls here in California, but the majority of them are independent franchises with drive-thrus.

Chick-fil-A is relatively new to California -- they've only been here for less than 5 years, but the line at the counter or drive-thru is always long.

I agree about KFC -- once you've had Chick-fil-A, you cannot eat at KFC again.....KFC is soo gross!

i don't get people's thinking...for those who eat the food, or work there.

This company clearly, from a corporate level, is anti-gay considering the organizations they support (and have for a long time)...not to mention this recent golf tournament thing... and yet, in our society where we all vote with our wallet everyday, we give our money and fill the coffers of companies like this...? Why?

I understand some are independently owned, and I'm sure plenty of LGBTQ folks have worked at them.
I understand everyone can make their own choices... but why give your money to a company that clearly and openly supports powerful organizations that are bigoted and actively work against you and your rights...that has been called out and has had the chance to stop that, but clearly will not?

Would people still support a company serving a product that at the end of the day publicly supported racist organizations?
Why does it feel like the ignorance and bigotry against sexual and gender oriented minorities is still given a pass, like it's not taken as seriously as other forms of bigotry?

I understand that we can't always know everything about every corporation...but in this case, it's wide and open for all to see, and they've been called out on it.
Are we that lazy that some greasy fast food has this power over standing up for what's right?

OMG! I know........I had a really bad chicken craving, so I just ate at Chick-fil-A today...........it's sooo yummy :)

Seriously, they have the friendliest customer service out of any fast food joint.........they're always smiling, and they never refuse to give out extra dipping sauces.........compare that to McDonald's where they nickel & dime you for everything.
 
i officially stopped eating their food in the last few months when their politics came to light. their foo is good but not worth my pride

Frankly Chick Filla makes me puke as does their fundie politics and their openly working against homo rights.

The thought of scarfing down one of their christo-fascist msg sodden garbage sandwiches makes me gag just thinking about it.

BTW, it is the msg that has you hooked. It is the ingredient in all garbage food that makes you keep wanting to get more and more of it.

Well I'm not a Christian, so Judas doesn't mean too much to me. Although Lady Gaga is apparently "in love with Judas", right?

Just to clarify, my father (nor myself or anyone in my family) is NOT the franchisee of ANY Chick-fil-A. I just happen to like their food & customer service. I disagree with their founders' views on same-sex marriage, but I still enjoy their food.

As an update -- the Chick-fil-A near West Hollywood will be opening around September 22.

From their website, Chick-fil-A is also opening its first location in the San Fernando Valley (where most of America's porn studios are located). It will be located at 8875 Tampa Ave., Northridge, CA -- and will be opening on October 13.
