choice of monitor

'Ello!

I've got a Samsung monitor similar to the Samsung one in the bestbuy.com link.
I think it might even be the same one.

I think all Samsung products are pretty good and would recommend a Samsung monitor any day.

It's the Samsung for me buddy! :D

I would agree...I have 2 Samsung 204b monitors I got from CDW for $299 each. They are 20.1" monitors and they have a native resolution of 1600x1200. They are awesome.

Ooooh, cool cool!! i just went to Best Buy and looked at the Samsung model, the sale ends tomorrow, LOL. thank you! (*8*)

any dissenting opinions?

Go with a Dell or Apple 20" or higher.

^ i agree with Paws. You might pay a tad more for the Dell panel but its VERY nice looking. If you can afford it, go for the Dell 2007 fpw. The widescreen beauty. And if you hook any of these panels up with an analog connection (D-SUB), I will kick u in da nutz! /end cartman voice

:-)

i have a samsung syncmaster 175v and i like it. so far no problems. i think i've had it about 2 years. i don't remember how long lcd's are supposed to last though...i think it's not as long as CRT monitors though.

cool cool, thanks mike! my KDS Radius lcd flat panel is 5 years old, and it just started dying last week. it has been pretty dependable!

I will take a look at the Dell, thanks guys! Duuuude, i'm gonna look at a Dell!

Both are nice monitors, both ViewSonic and Samsung have great reputations as well. Definitley a case where you'd have to look at both to decide which has the better picture.

Mike and Cuddly Bear, are those CRT monitors? If so, are you sure they aren't just shadows from the apature grille? If they're LCD, then I dunno what it could be...

what the heck! have'n said the above tonight i notice evenly spaced hair thin horizontal strips running through my screen. at about 1" intervals....
On a TFT or CRT?

dkonfrost: If you will use it for gaming, a TFT with the TN+Film technology will be sufficient. Fast response time but bad colour/contrast quality.

If you need it for graphical work, take a S-IPS one. Slower response time, but better quality everywhere else, also the degree you can look at it.

i fixed my problem. it's apparently been there for a while i just hadn't noticed it. I have an LCD. Turns out i had it set for 75 hz, instead of 60. the little light blue lines are gone now. i realized it was there for a while because of some recordings i had made of TV shows a while back.

so i say again i'm very happy with my synmaster 175v =)

hum...well like i said i thought mine was dying also there at the end with the blue lines and stuff. But it turned out i just had it set wrong in windows. did you happen to check the manufacture's web page to see if they had a FAQ section on your monitor? that's where i found the blue lien thing on my monitor. ;)

actually, i tapped the side of my monitor and the colors went back to normal.

so, jiggling the monitor is a fix now? LOL

Often the problem is in the lead, lose the blue and you end up with a yellow tinge. Nothing wrong with the tap / quick wiggle technique, it is an industry standard for locating faults. Thing is what happens to the old monitor when you get a new one. Hopefully you take it to the dump, someone who can't afford a new one picks it up for a couple of dollars, fixes it up for a few more and gets something they could never afford new.

Sorry quick rant on our consumerist society, I am guilty too.
