Civil Unions in Hawaii

That's right jockboy.

Thanks Republicans and Republican supporters for keeping us second class citizens. With your help the conservative Republicans will win elections, enact legislation and we'll all be in prison.

"That euphoric period of time is so over..."

It will start up again next spring, during the off year period. Also, the likely ruling in our favor from Judge Walker in Perry v Schwarzenegger will be beneficial too.

I don't think Lingle ever seriously considered allowing gay civil unions in Hawaii.

She's a Republican. Hate and bigotry are their stock in trade.

She didn't. She just stalled and talked about how she was "carefully considering" it to make her bigotry seem less overt.

so are their any options to beat back the republican anti gay agenda in this state?

Well as mentioned this is the last year of this gov. The next Gov will likely be a Dem, and the bill past both houses by enough of a margin that it could probably pass next year too even if the Republicans pick up seats in the election.

I feel so sorry for Americans today.

Once again, the conservative right has limited the rights of citizens to conform to their homophobic world view.

Thank God there are civilized nations who have counterbalanced this Talibani approach in the US, because if the US was in the front on this issue, we'd all be wearing pink triangles and disappearing into camps with gates that tell us 'Work Makes Free'

^^^ more insane paranoid theories from the almighty Canadian :-({|=

It just so happens to be a fact that American conservatism in the Republican Party is the primary influence driving the nation's resistance to change on LGBT rights.

It is no "insane paranoid" theory.

After this stunning civil rights loss to Republican Governor Lingle, I'm surprised you'd even dare to show your face in this thread. We have enough fundies in this world making our lives miserable, we don't need gays like you in the community cheering these Republicans on.

I'm not cheering Lingle on, don't put words in my mouth [-X

I love how you think extermination camps for gays are something the GOP wants. Cuckoo cuckoo

If you think anybody here has any doubts as to your loyalties you're out of your mind.

Do you think I care what some ideological left wing loons think? ;)

And please confirm your insane theory that the GOP would like to have extermination camps for gays. Just more red herrings from the far-left.

Keep driving my point into the ground so everyone can see what you're all about with their own eyes.

Thank you for continuing to confirm that your paranoid theories are just red herrings. :=D: You're perpetuating myths and falsehoods, just insane assumptions.

standard republican attack method. If you don't like what you hear and there is no real response, just shoot the messenger.

Yeah, like rareboy talking about pink triangles and extermination camps

This is what Rareboy said:

The problem is you are reluctant to acknowledge it, preferring to deflect criticism on the gay-friendly Democratic Party. All that does is make you look stupid.

You know what makes someone look stupid? Bringing up pink triangles and extermination camps.

because that stuff didn't happen and we should never remember it and try to avoid it.

History repeats when people forget.

Do you ever just read what is written or is your entire world so partisan that you've lost the ability to pull your head out of your ass and only read what is written?

No one equated the GOP with death camps. No one.

Why is the conservative right only = GOP?

But I can guarantee you that with the hateful rhetoric that lurks in the heart of the fundamentalist conservative right wingers of any political stripe, it isn't that big a leap to repealing equality laws for gays, to making homosexuality illegal and subject to imprisonment.

Mindless party apparatchiks like Laika are exactly the type of people who bring tyrants to power and keep them there.

Well ya know, the Supreme Court kinda made the pink triangles and work camps impossible in America. Now I grant that up until 2003, the states could have done that (state by state), but they didn't. Well, it was a long time ago. I suppose if we go far enough back, the death penalty for same-sex behavior could be found in every English-speaking country.

I suppose I ought to take your last paragraph as hyperbole seeing as how over the top it is.

All that being said, I wonder what the numbers would show about Republicans' theoretical position on sodomy laws. Reckon they'd really want to fine us? Jail us? Execute us? We know for a fact that the Texas GOP wants to fine us. We also know for a fact that the Montana GOP wants to jail us. I wonder what the national GOP platform says, but I'm not curious enough to look it up. It's a good thing that Justice Kennedy thinks that would violate our Constitution.

torture was illegal until cheney and bush. We have held citizens in american concentration camps as recently as 1945... well 2010 if you count guantanamo.

Just how far of a jump is it?

we have seen an emergence of a radical armed right wing militia driven phenom called the teabaggers.

If they are given a foothold on our nation, what is NOT possible?

Do you have an actual opinion or response concerning the vetoing of civil unions by this republican governor?

All right, then it's a good thing we have Olympia Snow and Susan Collins to keep that from happening. As far as I can tell, they and Justice Kennedy are the lynch-pins that would keep it from happening anytime soon. Oh, and I forgot to mention . . . the Democratic Party.
