What do you guys think of Claire McCaskill (d) senator of Missouri for Obama's vice president. Besides the fact she is a WOMAN(duh) she is very intelligent and a strong speaker who always holds her own on any debate lately I have seen her in on these news programs.

My top 3 choices would be:

Bill Richardson
Joe Biden
Claire McCaskill

Bill has mucho experience especially in foreign policy.
Joe is just flat out smart as fuck and shows this anytime I have seen him speak.
And Claire as well as what was stated above could help with those women who just can't get over the Hillary loss. She just might be seen as too inexperienced even though she has traveled abroad as a Senator(and I believe former senators wife) to learn more about the world.

Your thoughts.

And I have heard lots of talk of Obama should pick an independant or republican(light). I think this would be a huge mistake. As a die hard dem, I don't want to have to worry about what would happen when Obama is no longer prez and having a repub next in line to succeed him, say in eight years. There are plenty of capable dems and besides Obama is already making across the aisles progress in getting some of them to vote for him, no sense in pissing off your base of the party in picking a repub as a running mate.

It's Hillary all the way. He can't win without her.

Don't know her but I would be happy with Joe Biden or Bill Richardson.

I think it's quite clear that Obama does not trust Hillary and nor does he want her on the ticket. I would agree, as even my Father says he wouldn't put it past the Clintons to have him assassinated to gain control of the Presidency, since they obviously aren't going to get it on their own. I have never seen someone so obsessed with power than Hillary Clinton. For Hillary, this is not about the people ... this is about one person ... and that is Hillary Clinton and her own legacy.

But her supporters certainly aren't going to embrace another woman, unless it's her. I find it amusing that the Clinton supporters refer to the Obama supporters as "die hards" and "blind", when that is clearly the case with her own fanatic supporters.

Don't know her but I would be happy with Joe Biden or Bill Richardson.

Richardson would bring a wealth of Experience to the ticket, in his role as a Governor ... along with his "Foreign Policy Experience" ... something the Clinton supporters originally told me was a reason they were choosing Hillary over Obama. Well, there you would have the "Experience" you claim you were looking for. So, what would the problem be?

Plus, Richardson would help with Hispanic voters, and would likely deliver New Mexico to the Democrats in the Fall.

However, I also very much like Joe Biden, who also has a wealth of experience in Foreign Policy. His likeability factor is also very high. I think he would also be a great choice as a VP. I'm really torn between him and Richardson.

Getting Claire McCaskill should help bring Barack Obama the state of Missouri. Crucial win it would be, given that Missouri has backed the winner in every election since 1904 with 1956 the only exception.

He needs a moderate white male, preferably from a red state.

If he were to choose a liberal woman, they might just as well inaugurate McCain the next day.

Thanks, tmb1, for calling my attention to Sen. McCaskill. I shall definitely put her on my personal short list.

Personally I think Claire McCaskill is the best senator we have had in Missouri in ages. When I write to her she actually answers me! After the other morons, John Ashcroft and Jim Talent and our dufus Kit Bond, McCaskill is a real breath of fresh air for us. If fact McCaskill's endorsement of Obama along with former senator Jean Canahan is the reason I've started taking him seriously.

However, Claire has only been senator since the 2006 election. She lost the gubernatorial election to ding-dong Matt Blunt (son of minority whip Roy Blunt). She was state auditor before. Experience is a big issue in this campaign and Obama needs someone to counter his lack of experience the republicans will hammer him with. McCaskill will not help that. I do not think she would be a good choice for that reason. Obama needs someone like Biden or Clinton to make up on the experience thing. And... I really like her at my senator!

She has only been in the Senate since 2006 and has baggage:

Joe Biden wants to be Secretary of State or to stay in the Senate, Richardson would not be acceptable to a large segment of the party and is disliked by many concerned with illegal immigration. I can't imagine why Clinton would want to be on the ticket, she will be an important force in the Senate.

Obama needs someone from the Clinton camp, preferably from a swing state or someone with National Security Credentials.

I like Claire but she does have some baggage. I voted for her in the 06 election.

Richardson probably won't get it because he's not a white man.

Yes please Claire McCaskill,John Edwards or Bill Richardson, anyone who will ensure Obama doesn,t win!:p

1956 is quite the exception! That was an Eisenhower blowout.

Missouri would be nice, but Obama doesn't absolutely need it. I like McCaskill, but the problem is that she highlights Obama's inexperience, she doesn't mitigate it.

I've been for Evan Bayh for months now (check out the long VP thread) but there are any number of good choices. The stark fact remains, however, that very few people vote based on the VP candidate.

Remember the last time Edwards was on the ticket for VP? That didn't work out very well. :-({|=

Exactly what aren't you guys getting, it's Hillary as VP. She has the base he can build on. Together they are unstoppable.

Senator Clinton should be ashamed of herself for even considering VP.Senator Clinton should not be a shadow for Obama for 8 years, she deserves better!!

Well Senator Clinton dug herself 50 million into debt trying to beat Obama, often bringing up the racial card, and using the classic Republican campaign tactics. She argued about why Obama shouldn't be, probably just as much as she argued for her own case.

And Senator Clinton lost fair and square. And you talking down to Obama like that is just disgraceful. And wtf is wrong with you? Do you want another 4-8 years of Republican reign? Or do you know about a third party candidate that needs Obama to do poorly to win?
