Climate Science biting liberals in the ass again.

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/opinion/Cold-sun-rising-30272650.html

I see that you are citing an opinion piece from Thailand's … 'The Nation'.

The "special" American brand of far right-wing conservatives will always wind up shoving support from ideas most espoused in military dictatorships … or similar socially draconian systems

Best I can discern, The Nation came about as a result of the student movement of the 1970s and tends to adopt an anti-establishment outlook. In terms of Thailand’s politics, the newspaper can be considered progressive; however, it maintains an editorial component that is conservative. [Wiki]

Opinion
Sam Khoury

What credentials does Sam Khoury bring to the table that tend to validate his opinions on sun hibernation, etc?

I can’t find his bio or any other significant or interesting information about him. Is the name a pseudonym?

I agree with ben 100%.. As long as we have supplicants like him willing to sacrifice themselves on the blood altar of corporate greed, the fewer 'liberal facists' will have to suffer the same fate, with our collective guilt ridden concious filled with socialist ideas of human rights and respect for the planet.
If you want to give yourself to the noble cause of higher ideas of corporate principles and ethics trafficking, we won't stop you ben.

He is a reporter, reporting studies done by others.

Why should Americans make sacrifices to reduce emissions, knowing that any reduction will by nullified by immigration, and knowing that population growth world wide makes the sacrifices futile. You dems pretend to be so scientific, but you blindly accept both the warming ideology and the flood of immigration agenda. Where is the science in that?

Interesting that nothing really 'weighty' from a scientific point of view comes up on these 'studies'. At random:

However, many scientists are not convinced. Georg Feulner, the deputy chair of the Earth system analysis research domain at the Potsdam Institute on Climate Change Research, has studied the effect a solar minimum might have on Earth's climate. His research has shown that temperature drops correlated to a less intense sun would be insignificant compared with anthropogenic global warming, according to the Washington Post.

http://www.livescience.com/51597-maunder-minimum-mini-ice-age.html

While there has not been great resistance to Eddy's arguments for a lull in solar magnetic activity during the Maunder Minimum, one of the main reasons why his ideas caught the imagination is more contentious. He claimed that the Maunder Minimum coincided in time with an era of colder weather, and that by implication the absence of magnetic activity was accompanied by a net fall in the total radiative output of the Sun. An implicit corollary is that in the intervening period the radiative output has been increasing, with a consequent warming of the Earth. This basic idea has been taken up by a section of the solar physics community, and a good recent summary of the evidence for the proposition that solar variability is an agent, if not the main agent, of the perceived recent climate change associated with global warming, is given in Hoyt & Schatten (1997).

One should be wary of jumping to conclusions about the role of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere in procuring a generalized warming of the Earth, given the great complexity of physical processes inherent in the reaction of the atmosphere-ocean system to a change in atmospheric transparency, knowing that such a change is in fact occurring as a result of the emission of gases in industry and transport. To this area of doubt the advocates of solar global warming have been able to add their element of confusion. Maybe we are experiencing a steady rise in the solar constant, accompanying a similar rise in solar magnetic variability, and maybe the greenhouse effect is not the main agent, or even a cause, of global warming. The novelty of the use of the Maunder Minimum in this context is the hypothesis that the time-scale associated with any change may be of order hundreds rather than tens of years, which would be the scale for changes directly linked to individual 11- or 22-year cycles.

A new ice age is not actually coming. But you wouldn't know that based on headlines from places like The Telegraph. The "reasoning" behind the headlines is that a new study suggests the Sun is headed for a severe low in its activity, and the last time that happened coincided with a cold period called the Little Ice Age. Ergo, another one is on the way.

Pretty much every aspect of this reasoning is wrong.

http://arstechnica.com/science/2015...um-is-back-maybe-and-we-probably-wont-notice/

Throughout the Little Ice Age, the world experienced heightened volcanic activity.[72] When a volcano erupts, its ash reaches high into the atmosphere and can spread to cover the whole earth. This ash cloud blocks out some of the incoming solar radiation, leading to worldwide cooling that can last up to two years after an eruption. Also emitted by eruptions is sulfur in the form of sulfur dioxide gas. When this gas reaches the stratosphere, it turns into sulfuric acid particles, which reflect the sun's rays, further reducing the amount of radiation reaching Earth's surface.

A recent study found that an especially massive tropical volcanic eruption in 1258, possibly of Mount Rinjani, followed by three smaller eruptions in 1268, 1275, and 1284 that did not allow the climate to recover, may have caused the initial cooling, and that the 1452–53 eruption of Kuwae in Vanuatu triggered a second pulse of cooling.[6][14] The cold summers can be maintained by sea-ice/ocean feedbacks long after volcanic aerosols are removed.

Other volcanoes that erupted during the era and may have contributed to the cooling include Billy Mitchell (ca. 1580), Huaynaputina (1600), Mount Parker (1641), Long Island (Papua New Guinea) (ca. 1660), and Laki (1783).[20]

The 1815 eruption of Tambora in Indonesia blanketed the atmosphere with ash; the following year, 1816, came to be known as the Year Without a Summer, when frost and snow were reported in June and July in both New England and Northern Europe.

So there you go Benvolio....not as clear cut as you want it to be. But do keep watching for other stories in The Nation.

So you believe...
A freeze is comink... therefore we should never have stopped polluting the atmosphere, in fact we should pollute even more
and
Even if you did slow down polluting for the sake of the planet, darned immigrants would smoke it all up again.

Opportunistic. Embrace external forces as reason to not improve behaviour and blame external forces as reason not to change behaviour.
So basically no matter what, you want to take no responsibility at all for your own behaviour and never want to change.

That's basically the definition of a slob.

It is much more serious than that. Both the "warming" agenda and the immigration agenda are designed to, and have the effect of, giving the democrats more power over our lives and our economy, to delatorious effect.

Or deleterious effect. Which it never has. The American economy is almost always strongest under the Democrats.

It is the Republicans who seem determined to constantly crash it over the cliff with wars of adventure and discredited 'trickle down' economic theory, instead of building and sustaining a healthy, large, middle class.

Wrong. The economy is strongest when the Republicans control Congress. It was weak during Clintons first 2 years, and strong for then next 12 years with a dip after 9/11. But went to hell after the dems were elected in 06. Now, with a Republican Congress it is the strongest it has been since 06.
Why do you think a "hand out" economy is better than capitalism and free enterprise which build our economy, and which you call trickle down? Our economy was greatest after world war ii, before the dems began their long war against employers. We have lost much of our manufacturing base and driven jobs overseas, because you and the dems regard employers as the enemy and deride jobs as mere "trickle down". Why are you blind to the fact that the massive flood of immigrants, willing to work cheap, pulls down wages and stagnates the middle class, even when you can see its direct effect, when as with Disney, Americans are fired to make way for cheaper immigrants?
And no, dems are the war party: 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, our participation in WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Kosovo, ISIS and some I have forgotten, are all democrat wars.

^^ One trick pony. Lather, rinse, repeat. So what does this have to do with the 'facts' you've presented on climate change again?

And as far as the hand-out economy...the Republicans hand out more welfare to corporations and the wealth aggregators....many of whom are multi-national and who are scamming the system.

I know. The most one dimensional fixated poster I've ever run across....it is almost like there is an algorithm that composes the posts.

It is like the guy a few years ago that spammed the boards with alien anchor baby threads who actually turned out to be a 'communications consultant' who was being paid to post that shit on bulletin boards all over the place.

I hope Ben gets paid well for all these posts. I'd tell him to form a union if he's not, but his bosses would probably fire him.

Why do you think a "hand out" economy is better than capitalism and free enterprise which build our economy, and which you call trickle down? Our economy was greatest after world war ii, before the dems began their long war against employers.

So our economy was greatest after one of the largest government-funded boosts to the economy (complete with rationing and pulling women out of homes to work for the war effort) and massive G.I. benefits to service veterans to purchase homes and receive educations when they came back.

Meanwhile look at what opportunity the "free market" has created today. Where Republicans all get up and agree that minimum wage is far too high and that American workers apparently need to lower their standards and make themselves attractive competitive wage earners to China and India.

Ben really is a history denier. All he has to do is look at data and it has been clear that Democratic administrations have added the most jobs per month than all of the last Republicans (including St. Reagan). The government actually has also spent less under Dems than under Republicans (not even counting the massive explosion under Junior Bush for two wars that were fought "off line")

And he goes back to his same old tired line: it's immigration's fault. Those damn hordes from south of the border (even though more than 50% of the undocumented in this country are not from that direction). Immigration is to blame for global warming; it is to blame for global cooling; it is to blame for poverty; it is to blame for Republicans losing. You can refute each of his points and yet he'll still bring it back to the same old tired thing. I'm waiting for immigrants to be blamed for thinner toilet paper; I'm sure they had something to do with it.

It is the reason the Republican party is going down the tubes; if Donald Trump maintains his leads, I think Ben may want to look at how to pick strawberries and perform manual labor while not looking for Rentboys because he may have to be one.

OooWhy

Lopk again. I refered to our economy after the war, when our manufacturing dominated the world.
Please tell me why democrats want American wotkers to compete against workers FROM China and India.

That is because evey problem we have is negatively impacted by the flood of immigrants, legal and illegal. How could you talk about poverty, omitting the 500 lb gorilla: the millions of additional poor in a never ending flood? How can you talk about unemployment, Wages, race, the environment, education, health care, without the new problems flooding in? Logically, you cannot.

It wasn't because wages were lower. If you want to chew on something, chew on the notion that most American corporatists in 1945 were Americans who cared about their local and national community, had a sense of patriotism, and were not transnationalists with transnational corporate interests beholden to international shareholders who simply demanded more profit and more growth by absolutely any means necessary. Including moving 100% of all job-creating business activity overseas.

I guarantee you, you could have paid a villager in China far less than an American factory worker of the same time period. So I don't know what the hell point you thought you were making, but this can be said of all of your posts.

Absolute bullshit.

Out of one side of your mouth you blame wages being too high in America and forcing all jobs and industry to flee the country.

Out of the other side of your mouth you blame absolutely everything wrong, including the quality of life, the condition of American workers, the static decades of American worker pay and everything else plus the kitchen sink on letting WAY too many immigrants into the country.

If immigration has occurred on the volume you allege and has the effect you allege, then you completely invalidate the bullshit you spew in every other post about how it was spoiled overpaid Americans wallowing in the riches of jobs they barely work at and earn way too much money doing who drove all the employers out of the country. And immigration should be desired by you on an even higher level because it would bring wages down-- if there was ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY ANY internal logic or consistency to ANY of your positions.

This is the same moron logic you used before saying actually we're in global cooling so humans need to pollute to keep the temperature up, but immigrants are bad because they increase pollution and invalidate any pollution cuts we make with regulation or green efforts.

Try to make the least bit of fucking sense.
