Never saw anyone - even the most annoying Clinton supporters on this board - say any such thing. "I don't care, I still want a woman" is as much a strawman as if we pretended your approach is "I don't care, I still want a black man."
If you want unity (and maybe you don't), it would behoove you to find some way to reach out to those supporters by coming to terms with their excitement about a female president, swallowing your self-righteous disdain, and moving on with your life. Without most of their support Obama won't beat McCain, and I doubt they'll be anymore swayed to join your ranks if you continue to gleefully insult their values and their candidate.
I am on record in my post history as condemning Blacks who are voting for Obama because of race, and originally supported Ron Paul on the GOP side (a white male) so you will never be able to nail me with the charge that I am voting for Obama because of race. I am a White Male, so I really have no single prejudice in either advancing a Feminist or advancing a Black Agenda in this thing.
This, for me, has always been about electing a candidate who is more likely to look out for the interests of the Middle Class, is the least connected to Corporate America, who has shown integrity, demonstrated good judgment, has the least amount of baggage, and is more likely to take us off the reckless course we are on right now with the Neocons in the White House.
However, just like Lost points out, many stereotypes about Gay Men are proving to be true when you look at the posts in this Forum with the amount of Gay Men who want us to vote for Hillary for the single fact that she is a Woman. And I'm sorry. I am not and will never do that.
It boggles my mind how grown adults can ignore:
Voting records- Iraq War, Patriot Act, Kyle-Lieberman Act. Sure seems to line up with the Neocons Agenda. Yet I suppose if she verbally says otherwise, that is good enough for her supporters. The proof is in the pudding, though, with her voting record.
Political Pandering- Gas Tax Holiday, telling Blacks that the House of Rep is run "like a plantation ... and you know what I'm talking about"
Double-speak- Withdrawing troops from Iraq, Driver's Licenses for Illegals ... (which is something I do disagree with Obama on, yet Hillary wanted to play both sides)
Influence of Lobbyists- Hillary has received more money from Corporate Lobbyists than any other candidate, on either the Republican or Democratic side ... as well as the most money from the Department of Defense ... something George W Bush received the most money from when he was elected. Isn't this comforting to know, when we are in the Middle of a Recession at the moment.
Dishonesty- Need I remind everyone about when she said she landed under Sniper fire on her trip to Bosnia? This did not happen at any point in her career, yet she insisted several times it did. Then, Bill Clinton tried to come to her side and claim she only said this one time when it was "late at night". Only when footage was resurrected was she forced to retract this lie. Besides, that isn't too comforting if we are to expect that she is more equipped to answer the phone at "3 AM in the morning".
Exaggerated Claims on Experience- says she has 35 years of political experience. Maybe if she is counting hubbie Bill Clinton's experience in this. She says she has been tested. How exactly as she been tested when her records as First Lady indicate that she performed typical First Lady duties when she was in the White House?
Scandals- Google WhiteWater. She is the first First Lady to come under Criminal Investigation in American History.
And despite all this garbage, someone is going to tell me that I'm simply not voting for her because she is a Woman??? Give me a break. And I think it's an outright embarrassment to this country that her supporters are willing to overlook all of the above factors, for the simple fact that she is a Woman and they want a Woman president. Disgusting and shameful. What day and age do we live in? Is this really the year 2008?
So no, I will not apologize to taking these supporters to task for calling them out on their antics. The simple fact is that I have tried to talk reason to them in the past, and they have shown to me that they are not interested in listening to reason, and are only interested in electing a Woman president.
And then, they have the nerve to threaten to vote for McCain, if they don't get their way, as they kick and stomp their feet, despite the fact that Obama is winning this election fair and square through pledged delegates, Superdelegates, and the popular vote.
If anything, it is the Clinton Supporters that should be apologizing for their behavior, although no, I am not expecting that to transpire. However, they can apologize for their actions by supporting the Democratic nominee in the General Election and doing what is best for this country. Anything is better than another 4 years of Neocon rule in the White House, and deep down, I would hope that even they realize this. The fact that we even have people suggesting they would abandon their political views out of spite really demonstrates to me that we have people with maturity issues that are more content in playing Games with the political process than actually caring about Foreign and Domestic issues that not only affect us, but the Global community, as well.
